It has a little bit to do with the time of release and the fact that no massive hits have really been released in 2025 yet. The craziest part to me is that "Whiplash" is basically guaranteed to be top 20 for 2025 at this point.

Plenty of them are, they just exclusively booked the ones that aren't, featuring 10 minutes of aespa who have become Jennie levels of lazy recently.  At least Jennie has her mic on during her lazy days though. 

 

All 4 SHINee members and Taeyeon(and one of the EXO vocals I forget which though) were all ready to participate in SMTown this year but were shut out. SM went out of their way to make a terrible concert lineup.

It's just a horrible way to experience your fav unless your fav is the main draw. It always ends up being 85% of one fandom that go and end up having no energy for all the other performers and just play on their phones until their group comes out. 
 

SM really overplayed their hand thinking fandom label loyalty  extends as much as it does outside of Asia.

I mean they've sold less tickets to these SMTown shows than any of the individual group's recent stops in NA.

 

The real issue here imo is that there's no crossover between their bases like there used to be. It used to be that if you liked The Boys, Lucifer, Electric Shock, and Mr Simple were probably up your alley too. SM used to have a pretty consistent sound and image.

 

Nobody buying a concert ticket for Supernova or Smoothie wants to hear the other songs that will be performed, including the other big headlining group's hit.

 

This is also why GOT flopped into oblivion and did a fraction of the sales SNSD, RV, or aespa were doing on their own at that time. aespa didn't get enough tour dates or big enough venues here, Mys aren't going to throw $400 at 10 minutes of aespa after that, it's disrespectful.

Having a song go viral for how bad it is isn't good branding long term. People are going to associate Gnarly as being a very K-pop sound and they'll never really succeed as a western group with a large western fanbase as they're being pushed.

 

the only people I've seen liking this are very obviously K-pop fans…. Which isn't the point of Katseye

To me the aespa girlies used to look like just normal teenage asian girls. What do people expect? Most girls look like that without makeup and a ponytail. 

Can we stop judging women for their looks when some of the men in the industry look worst and people love them.
