You've been around long enough to know what YG sounded like before G-Dragon. There never was quality a&r at that label, just a single runaway success followed by increasingly less successful attempts at recreating that sound and image, with purchasing some other ready-made artists(Psy, tablo, Lee hi/akmu) who curate their own careers mixed in. It's not that they ran out of ideas, it's that they never had ideas.

It was always supposed to be a vocal group ala Big Mama but for some reason he ended up backtracking to serve 2NE1 3.0 at just picked the best vocalists he had left.
 

The had plenty of vocally strong trainees from 2016-2022 but he waited way too long to decide on a lineup then so most of them ended up debuting in 4th gen groups or going solo before the BM lineup officially got announced. Doesn't help they tend to have multiple groups training at once so the turnover rate is not the best there.

 

probably the reason the last evaluation "survival show" seemed so fake because it kinda gave they didn't have that many trainees left to work with

and then he gave their name a BLACKPINK left over name; Jisoo once mentioned a few years ago BABYMONSTER was one of their original names along with PINK PUNK

i read the article and it's mostly about money and hybe's shares tanking while their revenue is also in decline
