It's getting weird when I'm the level headed one here:suburban:

when did i insult them btw…?

like genuinely tell me bc maybe i dont remember and if so im sorry :weeps:

I was more listening to Inkigayo today than watching, and it occurred to me that the fanchat for NMixx was kinda "male" in nature.  Which can be rationalized somewhat.  But then StayC came on and also received a "male" fanchant.  What attempt at social engineering is going on right now?

Earlier, Lessaniljin's "Hot" stage had a fanchant that was a little higher in register.  So, there's that.  Maybe only the army stan those kind of groups afterall.

General comment here not talking to the voices in my head... shut up mark!

There's been a growing trend of putting down K-pop by comparing it unfavorably to Western entertainment, often with the intention of discrediting it or dismissing its success.

The issues people point out in K-pop, happen in Hollywood too, and have for decades.

When people use examples like Taylor Swift or lady Gaga as proof of how "free" and "empowered" Western artists are, they forget that these are superstars with massive influence. You can't compare them to rising or mid-level K-pop idols.

Instead of demanding that K-pop become more "Western" in order to be taken seriously, maybe it's time to shift the mindset. K-pop doesn't need to lose its identity to gain legitimacy.

We should want better working conditions, fairer contracts, and more autonomy for idols. But weaponizing selective outrage against K-pop, especially through a Western lens, doesnt make things better. We can  push for progress, without pretending one is perfect while the other is not real music.

Also people dont really get behind NewJeans is because they are not the best symbol for industry change. While it's valid to raise concerns about their management, the way it unfolded made them come off more like disconnected millionaires caught in corporate drama, not representatives of mistreatment. A group facing real systemic abuse or known mistreatment would have had far more impact and resonance.

ughhhhhh some people are really hurt over NJZ standing their ground and having the balls to go against the corporate that's been mistreating them for at least 2 years now :WAP:

The selective activism of this thread is so funny.

Still to this day everytime i bring the riggory of Pooduce48 i am getting laughed and people comment "well yeah but we got bops" but now that their bunny faves felt insecure cause the CEO didnt greet them they are making thesis on how kpop is vile and the worst thing on this planet and somehow they act as if this is happening only in kpop.

NJZ antis try and use this as a gag when there are literally internal conversations and documents about having illit and lesser replace them as well as them admitting to want to sabotage NJZ and calling the girls pedobait. Stop falling for brain dead little 7 propaganda

I wonder how mhj is gonna explain cookie in court

I don't think we know enough to truly say who's mistreating them or not. I mean I'm not super confident about MHJ involvment either :deadbanana4:

"eat my cookie" = enjoy my music.
"i wanna see you eat it" = i wanna see you enjoy my music.
"come and take a lookie" = take a look at my music.

:clack:

the fact of the matter is that NJZ is better than anything your currently active faves have done. A lot of people here praise Anne Marie ass swedish demos like it's nourishment. They're so used to ingesting poison that when real food is on the plate, they RIOT and RAGE. Oh they cannoT stand it. They want to destroy these girls for showing them that they are unhealthy. It's sad really.

kpop already lost its identity. The original wave of hallyu stars didn't do this fancall chronic sns updates stuff. The novel things that kpop used to put first and foremost(choreo, videos, performances, etc) was the differentiator and it supported the actual music being sold by focusing on things that were traditionally not central to the experience of listening to a pop song but still directly adjacent. It's a lot harder to scout/train a SHINee or Mamapoo than it is to bait unstable teenagers into falling in parasocial romantic relationships with robotic models so they followed the money and by losing the laser focus on performance and presentation, the identity already faded during 3rd gen.

This is categorically false. American singers don't unalive in waves.

NewJeans was literally outselling and outstreaming 95% of western superstars. HYBE did everything in their power to bury them last year and they ended up the #1 korean group in Korea, #2 in the other Asian markets, and #3 everywhere else.

Most of the people outraged about NewJeans are specifically mad because they were some of the first innovative and interesting musicians to come out of the idol system since the 00s. Were mad specifically because NewJeans is real music and are real superstars.

Other ppl already clocked this but you should really look into the evidence instead of believing whatever you see on reddit, Twitter, and TikTok. The kpop companies have just as much influence over western social media as they do in Korea. A lot of money is spent manufacturing popular narratives. This is a multi-billion dollar industry.

NewJeans is the perfect symbol for this because they unite the real music/innovators kpop fans and the weaboo whale stans. People in both camps have had some of their most profitable and iconic groups ever taken away on the whims of vengeful CEOs. The few times this has happened in the US it became a gigantic scandal that effectively ended the careers of the executives and killed their public reputations. It's time pigs like BSH take the same hit, they're hurting artists, fans, AND bottom lines.

The evidence is all there. HYBE tried to steal their concept, fire their management and creative team, and have said on record that the plan was to bury NewJeans. MHJ is not a perfect person but there's a reason these girls raised hell about her firing, it was that plan being put into motion.

SM antis say **** like this and don't realize that the NewJeans sound was a natural evolution of the sound and aesthetic on the last fx and SHINee projects MHJ worked on because they did not listen to some of the best pop albums of the last decade a single time before jumping to conclusions.

Embarrassing, to say the least. :rip:

Well..yes! In the first line I said "currently active". I am a major fan of fx and shinee. I don't know about SM antis... I'm an individual who speaks truth without tribalism

Oh I'm not debating wether HYBE is evil or not. I'm just not 100% clear MHJ isn't just as bad :biblio:

Find a single receipt of MHJ doing a single bad thing against anybody except the people and groups involved with the conspiracy against her and NJZ.

A kpop creative director was being accused of literal international terrorism, like at what point do people's bs meters go off if not there? There was very visibly a conspiracy against her. Y'all will believe anything if it's presented by a narration done over a vertical montage of fancam clips. :deadbanana4:

Nobody called Teddy greedy for distancing himself from YG who continuously subverted his work, or for there being distasteful depictions of minors in groups he was in charge of.

You're already prepared to dismiss anything with this, and maybe you're right :michael:

I'm just saying I'm being cautious, I'm not convinced of anything one way or another. What I'm rather convinced of is that they're ill-advised, in good or bad faith. The way they went about the whole thing, the new name, selling merch and so on so quick is just dumb to do.

It's not a matter of opinion, both waves of legal proceedings had evidence of this conspiracy introduced into public record and their legitimacy was never refuted by hybe in an actual court of law because it would have been perjury.

When an unjust media war is being fought against you, you don't lay down and wait for the damage to be done. Defending themselves and making a point to very publicly continue without the support of HYBE was the only acceptable response.

Being "cautious" in the face of evidence because the other side is very loud about being confidently wrong is literal flat earther behavior.
