To expand on this, I don't think Hybe really got the results they wanted in the end. celestial5

Like what Hybe did to Lee sooman but worse, they originally wanted to block MHJ from competing in the industry again with that lifetime non-compete clause in her shareholder contract, which they then attempted to substitute with a 7-year non-compete clause (until 2032). Now it's 2025, MHJ is no longer shackled to Hybe, she just created her own company and is going to be a force to be reckoned with. That's almost the worst-case scenario when you are a big company like Hybe trying to stifle the competition. (That's also why they had chased after her in 2019 or why they had reluctantly given her Ador in 2021, because otherwise she would have left Hybe to create her agency too).

I say almost worst-case because the worst-case scenario would be Newjeans and MHJ swallowing the entire Kpop market, which they were about to do, following NewJeans' 1st full album and world tour. Then upon contract expiration, Newjeans and Min Heejin would have left together in 2029, MHJ would have activated her stock options worth hundreds of millions of $, and Hybe would have lost everything, the group, the producer, and the money. This is solely the result of Newjeans mega success that Hybe couldn't predict. Had Newjeans been less successful, they wouldn't be a threat, MHJ stock options wouldn't be worth much, and this wouldn't be an issue.

To prevent this catastrophic outcome, Hybe 1st tried to blitz a media campaign to assassinate MHJ's character to force her to resign under the pretext of an audit in 2024. When that backfired spectacularly with MHJ standing her ground, with the judge blocking the motion to remove her, Hybe was left with no choice but to go nuclear and to unilaterally (and illegally) terminate her shareholder contract to then fire her, cancelling the non-compete clause. MHJ can work today because Hybe had to cancel her contract because the alternative, with her and Newjeans ruling K-pop together, was worse. From Hybe's pov, that's not ideal, that's taking the lesser poison.

Then you also have a cascading number of investigations and lawsuits following that scandal between Hybe, MHJ, Newjeans, and now the government, putting Hybe and Bang Sihyuk at the risk of being charged for multiple criminal cases for fraud, following a change in government and policy that Hybe couldn't have predicted either and can't be too happy about. It's true after all this, it can be said Hybe has successfully delayed Newjeans from conquering the world, but it cost them a lot, and I'm not sure they are the winner here.

We deserve more like this from Oh My Girl OT6/7 btw A full album would end hunger

I do not know what modhaus is doing with this group cuz it's lowkey a mess (apparently this is an OT15 comeback and not the unit for the new 8 members). They haven't even revealed the names of the new 8 members and are already putting out orders for fancalls & fansigns.

At least the music still slaps.

Apink's mini sounds terrible… emofish I thought we'd get a cvnty mature title like Dilemma or Eung Eung, this one sounds like some random nugu bside… skull

That CORTIS video got erased twice on reddit, no matter how many times it got erased, it gets uploaded.

Nayeon Kim isn't the best choice, but she isn't the worst choice either. Realistically she is the only sensible choice after the mass exodus and brain drain.

She is originally a graphic designer, has been with Ador since the beginning. She and a few others have never publicly shown any support or appreciation for the Newjeans girls, before or after the dispute, and unlike most OG staff, they never really felt part of the family. She was also quick to side with Hybe against Newjeans, MHJ and OG staff when she got offered a promotion following MHJ and NJ exit. She appears largely indifferent to who she is working with or for, favoring career advancement over morals or friendships.

She has no experience as a creative director, and she is known to be using AI. But she has some experience working in the K-pop industry, unlike the majority of the people working at Hybe today, and she is familiar with Newjeans' aesthetics. You could say she is the best among the worst. At the very least, we dodged some basement dweller and neckbeard from Hybe's gaming division. celestial

That's a good sign NJZ will put out music next year… but the real question is will we get all 5 or a messy FiftyFifty 2.0 serve with some members swamped out monkey

From what they are saying FIFFY2.0

I-dle have always been in this weird spot where they have been successful, yet never considered among the biggest groups for some reason, despite being successful the longest among 4th gen ggs. It's as if people often treated their successes as temporary, as if they could flop at any moment with the next comeback, even though they kept succeeding for 6 years until this year with Good Thing

I had looked up some information the other day, and from what I gather, Hybe has no real legal avenue to stop Newjeans from fulfilling their contract till 2029 then leaving. They can't expel them, they can't force the members who are majors to sign something, and anything the minors' parents sign would be contested and cancelled once they turn 19 anyway. Short of Hybe going nuclear again and doing something illegal, or successfully brainwashing them, I don't expect any surprise.

I think they will continue picking on Hanni to make her life hell behind the scenes.

Hanni is the little superstar of the group, smart, talented, and eloquent, a favorite with the fans and the public, a foreigner and polyglot to boot, she is both the Jennie and Lisa of the group. She is enemy n°2 after MHJ.

But I'm not sure there is much else Hybe can do about it.
