This isn't exactly a hot take. We already know the Kpop industry is pretty s hit, and music critics never really fancied commercial music, which most of Kpop is in its most capitalist form.

This also echoes what I said earlier in regard to more independent creative-led labels like TBL or OOAK possibly positioning themselves at the forefront of the next Kpop wave.

Newjeans just so happened to be at the junction between corporate Kpop and Korean Indie music, supported by both big money investors and more underground collaborations with the likes of BANA, which sparked interest from many people, inside and outside the entertainment industry, from non-fans and fans alike. And a lot of that credit has to be given to Min Heejin who appears to be one of the very few capable CEO creatives who can push indie sensibilities into the mainstream to commercial and critical acclaim.

I'm personally most curious about MHJ's next project. She has a tall order in front of her. Beyond the intricacies of creating her own agency, her next group has to be as successful as Newjeans and connect with all demographics, men and women of all age groups, which for a boy group hasn't been done since Bigbang. It's unfortunate Newjeans and MHJ next chapter together will have to be delayed in the meantime, but their reunion in a few years will be fireworks too.

What @Rainy Devil said is definitely understandable.

No sane vocal director would be giving HYO and Yuri more lines at the expense of less to Jessica, Taeyeon etc. They want the songs to sound the best they can with the minimum practice time required. It's a business.

A well functioning team has different players carrying out different roles and the company would want to show the group's best side. So they give the most focus on singing to those who are good at it. HYO was there for the dancing. It's the same reason we didn't see Tiffany getting dancebreaks (thank goodness)

Yeah, I honestly don't hold it against SM for giving more lines to their best singers.

Could Hyoyeon and the dance line be given more lines? Sure, especially in songs where they had like 3 seconds, but at the end of the day the ones with the most lines were always going to be Taeyeon, Jessica, Seohyun, Tiffany and Sunny.

Plus, I think people forget that a lot of SNSD songs have the 'ALL' chorus (that is mostly sung by 3/4 members of the vocal line) but doesn't count as a part to them.
