Smile did 8k in the UK first week so i don't think 7k after 3 days is bad at all

This would have been a good direction to take the album.

All The Love is the only song where all parts of the song were enjoyable.

It's is a sound she does quite well. It has a nice melody.

I actually quite liked this one. 

It has a darker vibe and my favourite part of the song is actually JID's verse.

This would have been another good route to take the album.

I can't decide if this is as good as or better than All The Love.

Lifetimes:

The 'best' of the singles.

Fairly catchy, but very generic and repetitive lyrics.

Nothing new or noteworthy.

Good sl*t beat.

The refrain and the chorus are the best parts of the song.

 

6,5 sur 10.

 

Nirvana:

Painfully generic but some of it is catchy, notably the chorus.

The verses aren't great and the "Ah ooh" in the pre-chorus is off-putting. The weakest of the four. 

 

5,5 sur 10.

 

Rest of the album:

Just noise and fodder.

 

Overall, 143 is about the same level as Smile, so slightly better than Witness.

The critics were never going to like this album, but if all of its songs had two verses and a middle 8, I think its commercial prospects would've been better. "Lifetimes" is one verse short of being a KP classic, and "All The Love" could get there with a middle 8 and some guitar strumming. Only Stargate stuck to the tried and true formula. 
 

 

After a few complete listenings, here's my score on the album :

Overall it's a okay album, some songs are good and fit in any predrink background playlist. I also think the setlist order doesn't help the album, Gimme and Gorgeous should have been later on the record. Gorgeous could have been THAT song but it's so badly produced and the featuring is useless. Crush, Lifetimes and Nirvana are the 3 stand out songs for me

on second listen, Crush gets much better. Her vocals in the chorus sounded too annoying to me when i listened for the first time. The 00s dance intrumental is fire

No More Years For New Year's is very Sabrina/Chappell coded, cute

this album isn't as awful as anyone says, it's just very mid… but i'm his he's mine should smash 

I found myself listening to it way more often that I would like to admit. I don't use at all the beginning of the album and in my opinion it's trash but starting from I'm his, his mine, I really enjoy the vibe. One thing tho is that I can't deny that all those tracks would have greatly profited from other producers. Very very formulatic and half baked. If she wanted her dance moment, there was plenty of great producers, particularly from Europe, that would have done an amazing job. I like the London sessions from Mary J Blige for the idea more than for the music if I have to be honest but she could have gone there. 
 

It's not where I would like her to be at this point in her career and some choices were made that she will pay for a long time. Everything is just too out of place for the current state of the music industry. Everybody ****** her somehow, and she did it probably to herself too to some degree, but at the end of the day, it will be a big fiasco for everyone involved. 
 

it's really sad to think about the momentum that was building itself organically just before she dropped this damn snippet and the confirmation that Dr Luke was producing all the album. 
 

let's enjoy what's left for a while before it falls into the darkness. 

You can say whatever you want about "GORGEOUS" but there is no denying that the "I know that you wanna know my name / I know that you wanna play that game" part is such a goddamn vibe… The fast synthy drums when this part starts, Katy's delivery, the harmonies… I ASCEND

I kinda hated it at first but I find myself enjoying it more with every listen 

 

The hate is so forced  I'm happy that UK is giving us good news and 143 is going to be charting pretty high there
