2016-2019 were kinda those years for her but she hardly "flopped". Others just took the spotlight for a while and she earned it back with Folklore's release and she's been riding that ride ever since.

We need an Artpop and Joanne scale of a downfall and then she comes back hard several years later. That would be iconic 

I don't think she cares if "pop stans" consider her a legend or not. If she did she would have been long gone.

Mentioning self titled is kinda crazy when Bey was on her biggest tour ever at the time and 4 was a success (although not a Sasha) and a creative triumph. What an artist needs to be seen as legend and what not is to break the mold and defy the expected - which that reigns true for Bey's self titled, and also happened to Taylor with folklore (hence her current popularity incline ever since).

I mean....she kinda already had one from 2016-2019. 

 

Back then, she dropped what was considered to be her worst albums, got viewed as a "snake" because of the Kanye phone call thing, and wasn't as respected musically as she is now by the GP. 

 

If you're saying she needs another downfall, I just don't see that happening soon. 

 

 

You mentioned Beyonce, Madonna and Mariah. 
 

Then you mentioned Taylor. 
 

I don't think a downfall is what's lacking here.

Reputation and Lover already are those albums. 

 

They were considered her worst albums in real time back in 2017-2019 but Taylor redeemed herself with Folklore and Evermore in 2020.

Reputation and Lover didn't flop NEARLY as much as the ones I mentioned. I wouldn't even call them flops, they were just her lowest selling albums but still successful. 

To be honest, Taylor is operating at a level where if she DOES have a downfall, it would have to be something so serious and damaging that it causes a downfall in the first place, and that would be something really difficult to recover from.

 

So if I were a Swiftie, I would not be wishing for that, lol.

I'm confused how ST was a "comeback" (from a downfall) when Beyonce was on a giant tour, performed at the inauguration, and did the Superbowl all of 2013 ahead of ST's release.

that's never going to happen. she has too many fans. 

you're free to write a fanfic about it but taylor is literally too big to fail at this point

she's going to have one someday, but I'm not sure when

Didn't Bey get a ton of bad press for allegedly lip syncing the national anthem during that era? 4 was a downgrade from IASF in the US at least so I guess it serves as a comeback.

Here on ATRL? Sure. The world didn't care that much and the Super Bowl silenced all her critics which was only a month later. And, yes, 4 was an underperformance compared to IASF; but it wasn't a downfall.

No one cared about the 2016 thing Swifties go on about. Putting a snake emoji on insta is nothing, a downfall 

 

A real downfall won't happen. If she got major backlash like J Lo is getting, I think Swifties would struggle to cope.

It's like ariana this year. People chronically online thought she was over for some dumb thing but people kept listening to the music. 

A real downfall involves sales too

It did happen in 2016. The Kimnye Gate is one the biggest hate trains alongside the Janet's Nipplegate and Britney's Bald Meltdown. She was lucky parts of her fandom didn't abandon the ship.

I mean...it wasn't a massive one that out of touch people in the GP were invested in but it was pretty major in pop and social media circles. 

 

Plus, Taylor dropped 2 albums that were perceived to be her worst during 2017-2019. And many people were saying that she was falling off musically and losing her touch. 

 

I think it gets understated how much Folklore and Evermore and even the re-recordings garnered her a new wave of fans/Swifties as well as respect from a broader music audience and how it's much harder for her to fall off now compared to the 2016-2019 era.
