With it coming to light that media was out to sabotage Katy during witness, it seems they are on her side again now and some have apologised. Witness has skyrocketed on iTunes as a result. Is Katy set to have a big comeback with her upcoming era?

No but I could see KP6 doing slightly better than Smile if she plays her cards right. But the big comeback that ATRL dreams about is just not realistic

It depends on the music, I don't expect her to smash like when she was on her prime but if the music is good she could have a decent era.

I don't see it for her. Dua kinda took the place she occupied in the music scene.

 

I do wish her the best of luck if the music is great though. 

While the social media engagement and itunes is encouraging, those aren't reliable indicators of success. I dont see Katy having a PRISM/TD era again but she could do numbers better than Smile with the right songs.

I can see her bagging a hit single for sure, especially considering the amount of (specifically female) artists who have struggled to do it for long periods of times but have done the past couple of years (like if even Meghan Trainor managed it why wouldn't Katy). 

A smash era with an album that actually sells well? Nearly impossible.

What would be a "big" comeback for her? Smile opened with 8M streams so a 15-20M debut would be seen as a big win.  The best thing she could do is actually release good albums and become a Carly Rae Jepsen type of artist but bigger obviously. She could snatch a Top 15/10 hit with the right material. 

 

 

I just don't see a ROL/COADF/TEOM/ASIB/etc type of comeback for her because she's not that girl. She doesn't have a big cult following or something else to fall back on. She was simply a pop star with an expiry date. She failed to adapt to the industry between PRISM and Witness and got replaced already. It's just how I see it.

Yes, I feel like the GP kinda misses her too with her hits being viral on Tiktok this past several months. I feel like the silver lining with Smile is that literally any album she would release onwards would be more successful than it. But of course, it depends on how much her label is willing to spend on promoting it.

I think she will and I HOPE she does. I think she needs to get into her Madonna bag and REALLYYY strive for critical acclaim. You can tell with the Witness era she was trying to execute something (sorta) like that but it just fell completely flat because she does not have her pulse on the culture like the way Bey, Madonna, or Michael did. But truthfully I think if she just strived for arts and not the charts. And really had her thumb on the pulse of today's climate she could cook up something really amazing.
 

Because you CANNOT tell me an artist of her caliber at the time, with three mega successful albums like that -  IN A ROW, can ALL OF A SUDDEN release Witness and flop THAT bad just simply because "she lost her appeal".
I truly feel her execution was just BAD with her last few albums. But I hope her next era is insanely huge. She deserves all the success. And I'm saying this as a non Katy Perry Stan.

THIS. If she can't win the GP back, she should at least cultivate the remaining Katy Cats (which is still a decent-sized fanbase) and make sure they do not leave by not trying to chase hits anymore. She literally has enough hits to last her a lifetime. She can be easily transition into "indie" or "experimental" genre but with the edge of already establishing a strong fanbase. C'mon Katy, give us those dark eccentric bops we know you're capable of!

She definitely has a chance if she plays her cards right.
