Circus for both, but I'm more likely to listen to Lover since I am more likely to listen to Taylor.

I think circus had the better singles, but the album itself was overshadowed by the bonus tracks so I picked Lover for overall.

Circus was a rushed, mixed bag, but it’s still somehow excellent. 

 

Lover was so embarrassingly bad that Taylor had to quickly put out two artsy alternative pop albums to get people to take her seriously again.

Lover was nominated for AOTY and was Taylor’s (at the time highest MC score). 
 

it’s much more acclaimed than circus. 

Lover is the better album but Circus had better singles. Two of Lover’s singles are some of Taylor’s worst songs

Circus has better singles (cause Taylor doesn't know how to pick her singles)

Circus is a better album and had better singles obviously. Taylor's albums are too long full of filler and Lover had the disgrace of including ME, YNTCD and The Man jesus what a trifecta of terror.

Which goes to show you that critics are useless. How could an album with filler like Me!, YNTCD, I Forgot That You Existed, The Man, False God, Miss Americana, etc. be better than Red and Reputation? 

 

Lover is Taylor’s first album that’s over half filler, which Britney didn’t experience until Britney Jean.

Unfortunately, Paylover was bombing until Discovery Mode saved it. It was pulling less daily streams than Camila Cabello until 2020 saved it. Circus went 3x Platinum and she didn’t have to give up Spotify royalties to do it.

Taylor is a critic darling

and even her bad albums, will get a higher ranking than a good album from a normal act

 

ATRL only admits this in certain situation tho

especially when it's got to do with Tay's worst (or at least top 2) albums

it may be forgotten in the Britney fanbase, but it's still appreciated

while Lover was only used to drag Reputation, and then was dropped when folklore was released (and only 2-3 songs are used..even that's a stretch tbh)

The same Camila Cabello whose bombed 2019 album spent the same amount of weeks as Circus on the Billboard 200? A set up if I've ever seen one. At no point was Taylor's opening act outdoing her in any fashion, but she did outchart every Britney album since 2008 with Romance.

Every Britney album bar Blackout is carried by the singles. I don’t mean that disrespectfully, but attempting to listen to her discography reveals how majorly inconsistent the quality of her album cuts are. 
 

Lover has Cruel Summer, the title track, False God, SYGB, INTHAF, MAATHP. It’s bloated with some awful single choices, sure, but it has a fairly consistent vision and the album cuts demonstrate emotional complexity.
 

Can I ask what Circus has apart from its lead single?
