Doja Cat is RIGHT!

Let's talk about it. We DON'T know the people we stan, they have no obligation to say they love us, THEY DON'T KNOW US!!! We all can't give an opinion on having fans because we are not famous, but I would assume it must be really weird to have people you've never met feel ENTITLED to praise or literally declarations of love when you don't know who they are!!!!! And she spilled once again when she said we probably in real life wouldn't like most of the people we listen to, it's just about the music. Her "cancellation" is so stupid and she's only speaking FACTS, her new song is great btw, go stream.

I understand why fans were upset but I do think she made a very interesting point on parasocial relationships. Stan culture has gone from enjoying the art to being fully invested in an artist's entire life and expecting them to have a bond with you. It's a lot.

She is right. And most of what people do as stans is argue why their favorite celebrity is better than another one. Inciting hostility, begging for music or attention, and then holding them to a standard that stifles creative growth. God forbid someone says.. yeah I changed my mind and this stuff is not good for the artist, and the people who do this aren’t actually fans of my art, they just like to argue. And you can tell they aren’t actual fans of your music because they will stop listening to it when you do something they don’t like, and try to pressure you into acting how they want you to. It’s actual lunacy

What she said about stan relationships was always valid, it was just the way she approached the conversation that was... questionable and offputting.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you aka her fans. Also she has a problematic boyfriend.

Ofc she's right any sane person can see that. But it's the way she went about it like a total ***** and drugged out loon that rubbed people the wrong way.

There could still be a connection between an artist and a fan. It’s the appreciation and gratefulness of it all, nothing else. We forget how to be appreciative of the people around us, and we become so selfish that we just don’t care about anyone’s feelings any more.

I think the whole “love my fans” is taken out of context. I don’t think there’s anyone in the world that compares the love for an artist to that of a parent or child or family and friends… it’s just another kind of spiritual love which clearly Doja doesn’t feel. She’s just making music for money and because it’s her passion, that’s all.

what she said could have been valid if it was said differently and respectfully. She had no respect whatsoever but clearly there’s something more to it and she’s probably being treated the same

It’s the tone not the fact she’s right. I personally do not feel offended and I’ll not stop listening to her music. But celebrities without fans and consumers are nobody so sometimes being grateful doesn’t mean you have to love your fans doesn’t kill anybody.

She literally called her fans idiots for buying her past albums :deadbanana2: are you ok?

Do know how many artist WISH they could be in her position? She owes her fans the world for supporting her with all her luxury vacations she goes on :rip:

If all fans want is a (I love you thank you) why is that so hard :next:

This is why i go hard for artists like Gaga, Janet & Xtina they have literally sent fans Pizza, donuts etc while they were waiting on them.

Humble yourself Doja!

and the only reason why she's acting out because she hates that the GP don't like Attention.

if you are gonna make a valid point don't start off by hating people who enjoys and supports your older music just because you feel like that wasn't the type of music you wanted to make. you can have a discussion about parasocial relationships without attacking your fans who come to your shows, buy your merch and support you as an artist. also having and defending that trash bf... :coffee2:

SEPARATE THE ART FROM THE ARTIST!!

No :giraffe:

It’s somewhere in the middle, normal fans that support and occasionally tweet their favs fine, but a lot of other fans are not capable or just don’t care.  At the end of the day the fans are the ones who make it able to sell your product and make money. She doesn’t owe them anything but respect and as long as they respect her.

Whole “Love” thing is obviously not her fans wanting her to tell them all individually, but just she appreciates them and loves there support.

It’s not hard to understand that her fans/public gave her back the energy she was putting out. She doesn’t owe anything to her fans just like they clearly don’t owe anything to her.

so I think you completely missed what I was trying to say :rip:

Doja was looking at her career from an outsider's perspective when she said her fans were gullible enough to fall for that pop oriented, in her words "cash grabby" albums that weren't really the music she wanted to put out in her vision. I don't think that's a bad thing to say. Either way, that's what she believes, and her point is if you like the music great, you don't have to like her and vice versa, which is a lesson a LOTTTT of stans could learn from in my opinion.

What we didn't need to separate is your own personal opinion from the general topic thread.

Oh, she's absolutely 100% right. And her approach to it wasn't even that bad... to me, a 25 year old, it was ******* hilarious. I'm mature and old enough to understand that the tradeoff between the artist and me is: they make art I enjoy, and I pay for it. Making good art for me to consume -- that's where their responsibility towards me ends. I think the problem is that a lot of her die-hard stans are somewhere between 13-16 years old. Considering that, her approach was very rude, but then again, it's not her responsibility. It's a complex situation.

Her boyfriend, on the other hand, is a very different situation. Entirely her business and her problem, though. She's going to regret that part.

SPILL!!

I agree separate the art from the artist

But were is the art and this artist you're talking about?

Her fans are what made her mediocre self big, she should be grateful

SEPARATE THE ART FROM THE ARTIST!!

I strongly disagree with all of that

Also, the only reason why the narrative switched on her is because she released a bop that gays like. Before that, she was over here

First of all, there is nothing wrong with saying that you "love" an artist. Mostly because literally everyone on earth know that it doesn't mean you actually want to marry them. It only means that you love their music and them in general - people here are saying that everyday about other artists and I wouldn't be suprised if the ones that agree with Doja would too. Calling out your fans for saying they love you is extremly cringe-worthy and unnecesary.

Also, having a fanpage for your fave is not a crime. We are on a pop culture forum and we talk about celebrities everyday. Those pages are just fun for teenagers and bullying them online, especially since it gives free promo, is sooo wrong and just stupid. Azealia Banks behavior.

Her new song is good but not amazing, it's really not a departure from her old sound as she said before and she deserved all the pannings she got for bullying kids online and attacking people that paid for her paints and better PC to play GTA.
