Why is atrl so chart obsessed?

Featured Replies

I admit I have fun and mostly troll here and there, but I’ve stopped if you’ve noticed when Nicki got her #1 and Kesha stopped going for commercial success, but these obsessions are another level.

But for most of you people to constantly monitor Spotify numbers, constantly track THH playlist, get upset when your fave doesn’t promote a song, I even saw some PREFER no new music from their fave if it flops.. Like WHAT? This is an insane take for me, like.. Are your brains all rotted?

Seriously, stop paying attention to all the charts, it’s unhealthy and obsessive. Just enjoy the music.

No its a pop culture forum there's a charts section

stanning is the equivalent of straights with sports tbh, you have “scores” to go by, it’s a natural byproduct of liking someone in an industry that has opponents. :celestial5:

its seen as the only objective, quantifiable measure of success

but the tea is that even charts are flawed, and trying to tally up any given artist's total global consumption is kinda impossible given the endless ways people could be listening to music + lack of data for many countries

Yeah, there’s lots of casual fans of sports but at a certain point if you really like something and want to discuss it more you have to get into stats and charts. Like following sports, the nerdier aspects of stanning are what make it a hobby.

Bc pop is a very competitive sport, yes sport

What true pop artists do takes time, training, discipline, dedication and their entire livelihood. It's a very demanding field to be in, so ofc that would equate to just as die hard fans. And the charts essentially validate people's faves bc who doesn't love feeling that they're #1?

Not you telling people that they’re brain-rotted because they like to talk about charts in a chart forum :deadbanana2: are YOU ok?

Okay, I reworded it. Just enjoy the music. No, but even when Kesha was in the top 40 I never cared like that, honestly.

Is it? just remind them their faves never scored Diamond in pure sales and they will say it doesnt matter.

Well when you’re on a pop music forum…

People who have statistical skills/interest in their offline lives combined with going on a pop music forum to speak on some of their favorite artists. It would lead to keeping up with their respective fave's chart positions because they specialize in that. Make sense? Basically people being people.

Then you have trolls who track charts to drag opposing fanbases. This is ATRL.

I hope you're just bored because if you can't put the pieces together then idek.

ATRL came to fruition because of TRL, a pop based music video chart :rip: i believe back then old ATRL users had their own charts here. the sub-forum still exists, but it was more popular than base initially.

It's a pop culture forum. Numbers will always be a significant part of discussion here

It's interesting. I don't think there's anything wrong with it until they start thinking their fave's success is their own success :rip:

right? but then will try and drag artists for being chart obsessed too :rip: at least they’re obsessed with their OWN numbers and not someone they live vicariously through :deadbanana:
