Why is atrl so chart obsessed?

Featured Replies

Most people here lack a personality and just pick and choose someone to blindly follow and defend everything they put out - numbers is the only quantifiable measure that is easily accessible for everyone, so...

Don't expect critical thinking or nuanced discussion here

    It’s a chart forum…

It’s literally called ATRL. Read a history book.

?

Do you even know what atrl stands for?

ot: it’s the only thing they have to hold on to. Most users don’t stan artists, they stan the charts. Haven’t you noticed how quickly they latch onto and move on to whoever’s currently sitting on top of the charts? These people are devoid of any taste or common sense. The longer you’re here, the more you realize how much these currupt and manipulated charts don’t matter

someone already mentioned sports and yeah it’s cool to see someone you like organically hit #1 but beyond that, if you aren’t the artist, label, manager or making money from it, and taking that as an achievement or even worse, making it an achievement of your own, seek help :heart2:

The best is when they’re celebrating their fave’s net worth.

Yes, exactly boo! This is what I’ve been saying, thanks for backing me up.

I'd pick being chart obsessed over bragging about their faves' earning or net-worth or business ventures tbh, the latter is the peak of stan stupidity.

i assume you're no longer interested in charts if these two are in your avi?

Yes, if you read my op, I did state that and the very reason why. But people still take it too far :coffee2:

what’s pathetic is solely stanning an artists for their numbers, like half of the swifties in here (mostly Selena and Gaga former fans)

Doesn’t the name literally mean “AFTER TRL” where our pre-historic ancestors would turn on their AOL dial up internet and wait 15 mins for a page to load and they would come here to discuss the top 10 that day.

Isn't the ATRL name based on a chart-based TV show TRL? Charts are literally the reason why this site existed and why people come here.

Total Request Live a former MTV program :giraffe:

Obviously I do! Google “total request live”

I genuinely would like to know. People come here because they love pop music but they end up as chart obsessed freaks and use it to shade others. Terrify:deadbanana:ing.

Enjoy the music.

Yeah the "she won't promote anyways so she shouldn't release" comments make me scream :deadbanana4:

Help

Latto brings out Mariah Carey for a surprise performance at BET Awards - Page 3 - Celebria - ATRL

I think it’s fine for hoping an artist or song you like charts well, but I think it’s lame when people like a song or artist because they chart well, or stop liking the artists because they are not charting well. I suppose someone can argue for the correlation between song quality and chart success, but I don’t buy it.

That’s giving mental gymnastics.

people requested the videos they wanted to see. There was no YouTube back then. The charts were like a byproduct and to keep viewers hooked till the end.

it’s the same with radio stations. People don’t care about the charts they just requested what they wanted to listen to. Maybe the chart stans existed back in 1998 but reality is billboard unfairly did not include trl charts, they had no impact

It was literally a battle between fans to get their favorite artist to number 1.

For the sport of it. I would assume most of us don’t actually dictate their listening habits based on the charts.

The rabid ones

and all for what? Like I said, if charts don’t matter then the trl countdown mattered even less

I guess I just don’t understand the frustration with a site that is maintaining the culture of its source material

stanning is the equivalent of straights with sports tbh, you have “scores” to go by, it’s a natural byproduct of liking someone in an industry that has opponents. :celestial5:

Every sport doesn't have those things, what's usually discussed is actual talent displayed on the playing field, court, ring, octagon etc,. :skull: even with stats in regards to something like the NFL, fans that use that as a driving talking point get heavily criticized as not being real fans or that they don't actually watch games. :rip:
