AOTY meaningless

Featured Replies

All  academy awards are like this. Even the highly respected OSCARS is based on popularity and agenda.

Seeing those Variety insights and such, it becomes clear the voting process has literally NOTHING to do with quality, but with agenda and popularity. No wonder Adele and Taylor won 5 out of the last 10 AOTY. Inoffensive, uninspired, white chicks who appeal to voters who dont even bother to listen to the albums and just base their votes on "how big an album was" or "because they like somebody".

A literal joke

All the talk about white mediocrity is starting to sound racist at this point. Adele and Taylor are not the same, first of all. They just happen to be popular around the same time. And, ofc it's a popularity contest, it's a vote! It's a democracy. And especially now with no more committee voting. There's most likely not gonna be sweeps ever again. And I'd argue that people, even the minorities, listen to music to escape politics rather than to participate in it.

Sis

awards as a WHOLE are meaningless

GP doesnt care, they will either forget it right after someone wins or wouldn't even know

that's why there isn't a remembered iconic moment about someone winning something :toofunny3:

okay, maybe in movies?? but music? lol

Like..no wonder Award shows are dying out :dies: look at the viewership

stans were the only ones pushing it up

People seem to forget that the Recording Academy is made up of people in the industry.

It has always been about their perception of the artist, including their likability. The perfect example would be Lionel Richie winning over Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, and Cyndi Lauper. Prince clearly had the best album here with Purple Rain, but Prince wasn’t an industry person.

He made his music and stayed to himself. Lionel Richie was involved with a lot of people as he was a producer, engineer, writer, and respectable peer to many, and he made those connections with other people in the industry (the voters). Therefore, he won.

Like it’s crazy to me how ppl still don’t get this.

The members of the academy that vote are the engineers, producers, musicians etc of the industry.
They all know each other. If they find you snobby and what not they won’t vote for you (not saying it’s correct but it’s how it is with literally all awards and votes in general)

Plus many also don’t vote for the big names just cause they are big no matter if their work is good or not so yeah.

Whoever lobbies the best wins.
The sooner ppl realise it the calmer they’ll be lol

Delete this sis.

Beyonce herself wants to win AOTY. That’s the only reason I want her to win it.

But I don’t care about the Grammy’s so I won’t be watching.

The energy needs to match.

I mean yeah, this is why commercial success is and will always be superior.

The average person will know you based on your hit songs and albums rather than because you have a few grammys catching dust on a shelf somewhere in your house. This awards and acclaim conversation, I only see it on the internet, it's really not that relevant of a topic. :deadbanana4:

Watch it become an important accomplishment when Beyoncé wins it this weekend. Somehow the AOTY will matter after that only.

I know right :ahh:

Embarrassing, what's the point of making a documentary if you're ACTING?

The fact that the hive fixated on Taylor and Adele rather than the truely undeserved wins like Beck, Mumford & Sons, Bruno Mars, and Jon Batiste really shows their unhealthy fixation and hatred of those artists.

I've never seen this before

She did too much here considering that she had 2 AOTY wins by that time :deadbanana4:

Stop this meltdown behavior :skull: No need to drag others to prove a point

Why? I personally think Adeles and Taylors output is very mediocre. Only 21 deserved its AOTY. I said what I said and that’s my opinion.

i’ll take beyoncé losing 10 aotys and debuting with 30k first week sales over her filming herself whining like a child bc of a grammy nom

Wasn’t beyonces publicist like begging for the award the other day?

My brain works very different.
I see the last time a black woman has won is more than 20 years ago and I see Taylor and Adele have won a total of 5 AOTY within the last decade. That’s all I need to know to call them and the Grammys out. Period

Especially seeing how there have been amazing records by black females in the meantime

Girl most of us don’t care we just want a performance and the visuals.

That was not an article, that was serving graphics design is my passion 💀 as if her own publicist would share that if Bey didn’t want it, she wouldn’t have submitted if she didn’t want it. People like having their output recognized, maybe since Bey can only win genre awards y’all have had to convince yourselves

exactly !! they love to to overlook this fact + bruno mars didn’t get an underserved win over one of the best albums of the decade, adele did so idk why they are acting surprised over people calling her and the other one out :coffee2:
