AOTY meaningless

Featured Replies

Seeing those Variety insights and such, it becomes clear the voting process has literally NOTHING to do with quality, but with agenda and popularity. No wonder Adele and Taylor won 5 out of the last 10 AOTY. Inoffensive, uninspired, white chicks who appeal to voters who dont even bother to listen to the albums and just base their votes on "how big an album was" or "because they like somebody".

A literal joke

and its so funny because a few decades back they would pick the more niche record for the award because they didn't want to seem like losers for picking the most popular projects

The meltdown before anything even happend :deadbanana2:

Not directed to the OP, but y'all need to maintain this energy when your faves win or lose.

You can't use awards for bragging rights when your fave is winning, but dismiss them as meaningless in other instances. It's either meaningless or it's not.

She was just being greedy here, at this point she already had 2 AOTY Grammy's. Not everyone has that. :coffee2:

a not everyone needs that to be a more acclaimed (and better) artist  :coffee:

You’re setting yourself/the hive up by name dropping Adele and Taylor in here, and you know that.

Never cared for music awards... It's easily the most subjective artform and when your fav is so recognised and respected it really doesn't mean anything to me as a fan. If it was one of my lessor known favs like FKA or Caroline etc I would celebrate, but for beyonce, 40x grammy winner or whatever... Yeah, no. Couldn't care less.

Stop this meltdown behavior :skull: No need to drag others to prove a point

Omg :ahh:

Watch it become an important accomplishment when Beyoncé wins it this weekend. Somehow the AOTY will matter after that only.

People seem to forget that the Recording Academy is made up of people in the industry.

It has always been about their perception of the artist, including their likability. The perfect example would be Lionel Richie winning over Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, and Cyndi Lauper. Prince clearly had the best album here with Purple Rain, but Prince wasn’t an industry person.

He made his music and stayed to himself. Lionel Richie was involved with a lot of people as he was a producer, engineer, writer, and respectable peer to many, and he made those connections with other people in the industry (the voters). Therefore, he won.

And B*y stans still wonder why everybody hates them.

Touch some grass, Jesus.

If it is so meaningless, why do y’all make a thread about it every couple of hours. It clearly means something to you specifically.
