AOTY meaningless

The fact that the hive fixated on Taylor and Adele rather than the truely undeserved wins like Beck, Mumford & Sons, Bruno Mars, and Jon Batiste really shows their unhealthy fixation and hatred of those artists.

Let me prove you wrong and say that Beck was EASILY the worst and most frustrating :biblio:

Like, for Adele with 25 one could make the case about commercial success yada yada but Beck had NOTHING on Beyoncé! His album was worse, didn't sell 1/10 of what ST sold, made no impact whatsoever and it had lower scores and critic reviews.

Oh plot twist he wrote the (sh!tty) album by himself. Gz, give him a pity songrwiter of the year award or something  :juanny: but that was not the Album Of The Year under any definition.

That was not an article, that was serving graphics design is my passion 💀 as if her own publicist would share that if Bey didn’t want it, she wouldn’t have submitted if she didn’t want it. People like having their output recognized, maybe since Bey can only win genre awards y’all have had to convince yourselves

“that was not an article", try again :ahh:

what does the second part have to do with anything ijbol ? majority of us don’t give a **** and just want a performance, y’all really just talk to talk :rip:

Three pages in, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned the OP can't count yet :rip: Adele and Taylor have won 3 of out of the last 10 AOTYs, not 5.

However, Lemonade should've won over that hot, steaming pile of **** 25, so I agree that AOTY was very very meaningless that year.

I’m white lol

Okay, but still, it's not just white people who can be mediocre or uninspired or whatever. And I don't think Adele or Taylor are those things. Now, if someone like Brandi Carlile wins the AOTY this time, then you could say that ok they have an agenda, still.

I don't think it's meaningless. It's still a great gauge of the respect and acclaim an artist has in the industry. Not saying it's the only thing that matters because of course it's not, but it is still respected and a goal of a lot of artists for a reason.

If the OPs opinion is this then so be it, but why is there a need for a thread to air his/her opinion? It's not up for discussion because s/he has a conclusive mindset already.

exactly !! they love to to overlook this fact + bruno mars didn’t get an underserved win over one of the best albums of the decade, adele did so idk why they are acting surprised over people calling her and the other one out :coffee2:

what? bruno literally did with an album even less innovative/good then 25. ballads all the time doesnt mean bad before you even go there.

i’m obviously talking about bruno not winning over lemonade but 25, keep up. idgaf what that man won, 25 is and was a lousy album that didn’t deserve aoty over lemonade.

He meant that taking everything into account both Adele and Taylor won 5 AOTYs: two victories for Adele and three for Taylor.

TPAB should have won over 1989 as well, but that's another topic.

oh my bad then- i was referring to bruno winning over kendrick with an even less accomplished album than 25 (way less accomplished really).

a not everyone needs that to be a more acclaimed (and better) artist  :coffee:

an artist who can't write or compose music by herself

To win an AOTY Grammy you have to have at least 3 of the following points (in order of relevance).

1. Good image among your peers and other people that work in the industry.

2. A strong narrative to back your win.

3. Commercial success and longevity during the voting period

4. Critical acclaim, especially on year-end lists.

5. Luck.

So no, I don't think that an award so hard to get is "meaningles", because at the end of the day, an AOTY win is just a matter of good strategy and luck.

no no you’re right on that one, bruno didn’t deserve at all and Kendrick was the very clear winner, you said nothing wrong !

and yet the music’s still better and more acclaimed than the singer who can’t sing one’s
