I mean, the casual movie goer would obviously recognize her face, but can the name Cate Blanchett compete with the likes of Meryl or Denzel or Leo or Brad or Angelina, etc?

 

It can't, and don't get me wrong, this isn't a drag. Imo, she's on the same level as Meryl, she's an incredibly talented actress, with an amazing filmography, it's just that she has avoided a lot of popular/blockbuster projects for the most part. And back when studio academy bait was actually making bank at the box office, she was out there mostly doing indie and auteur stuff, so.

I mean she did LOTR, The Hobbit, Thor.  But her most successful individual projects that have got her Oscar nominations haven't really been big cultural or box office events. She hasn't had a Devil Wears Prada type moment.
