The problem is Republicans seem to line up and vote for whoever the candidate is because they care about things like the Supreme Court. Democrats are far more picky and want an idealized candidate that if they don't get they refuse to go out and vote. There will be a list of 100 things and if they disagree or take issue with 1 they will be like "my conscience can't allow me to vote for them", handing the election to someone that they disagree with on almost everything.
