I feel like Gaga dodged a major bullet by changing the title of “Burqa” to “Aura” and not having burqas be a major recurring fashion element of the ARTPOP era. Probably could have gotten away with it with only minor backlash in 2013 but it’s probably something she’d have to really apologize for now.

She also dodged another major bullet by ultimately scrapping the "Do What U Want" music video. Even if the leaked clips already show enough of the disturbing premise, having her actually releasing it and defending it would have been so harmful to her image in the long-term.

 

OT: Ariana Grande scrapping the collaboration with Chris Brown on 2014's "Don't Be Gone Too Long", where she even recorded a music video as his love interest. She should have never worked with him in the first place, granted, but at least she and her team had the decency to realize it would be a terrible look for her image, something she'd have a hard time explaining had it been actually released.

I remember thinking a few days earlier of a timeline where Kylie was 4/5 years younger and dated and married Prince William and would now have been the next in line to the British throne. I wonder if her own popularity might have helped restore popularity to the monarchy too. Glad to know that sort of timeline never came to exist though.

yea, as messy as the ARTPOP era was, it could've been a lot worse and actually career-ending.

I wanted it back then, but the DWUW video release would've run her career straight into the ground
