Could TripHop be the next mainstream trend?

Featured Replies

After the disco revival and teen pop punk not really breaking into the mainstream I thought about what genre could be next, and I came to the conclusion that TripHop and Drum&Bass could be the next thing. I can totally see Olivia, Billie and Lorde going in that direction with an 90s influenced Massive Attack sound.

so discuss!

It would slay! Though I love trip hop with a bit of pop blend a bit more than pure trip hop. But I'd love something inspired by Dido, Beth Orton or Portishead from these girlies

Yes, who’s going to release the “Cherish The Day” of the 2020s?

Confide in Me will be the Confide in Me of the 2020s. :giraffe: Can somebody at Netflix hurry up and give it the RUTH treatment already? :chick3:

It would be extremely botched to accomodate today's short attention spans, so I'm not really looking forward to it in the mainstream :doc: with artists who CAN do it, it's always welcome! :foxaylove:

imagining a pop girl releasing something sexy like Glory Box :WAP: Adele almost had it with I Miss You tbh

not in pure form genre but drill sampled sped u/reverb adding DrumnBass maybe more bass too.

I never heard of the genre trip hop before (although I’ve heard the songs mentioned in this thread, I just didn’t know that’s the genre it falls under)

would So High by Doja be considered trip hop?

No one, they don't have the talent necessary to make a classic like this one.

Anyway, I love that sound so hopefully someone will jump on that sound.

A lot of the songs on Happier Than Ever were heavily trip hop/downtempo influenced so Billie has already started... hopefully she goes further into that sound though :duca:

I feel like Gaga and Xtina can pull it off.

So you think they would be able to produce something like this or

Or even something like this

I don't think they have the voice needed for this type of genre. Personally I would to see some of them try to do something like this. Xtina has the voice for it too.
