He used to be like the biggest artist in france and then his comeback made little noise and now he is low key flopping with his latest single only hitting #24 in france (his most important market).

Mylene Farmer is still stomping on young artists like him despite being like 4 decades into her career

9 years of break since his previous album, too much time in the current music climate, people basically forgot about him.

The music isn't as good, but he isn't a flop lol.

 

His streams are higher/on par with other popular French artists.

He took a 9 year break during his peak, that’s the worst mistake an artist can make. What shocks me is that he’s performing in Paris at Rock en Seine and it’s not even sold out while it’s impossible to find tickets for Tame Impala the day before

love his earlier work, but he takes himself very, very seriously. it's not his fault though, the press act like he's today's jacques brel or prince and he can literally do NOTHING wrong. everything is "brilliant". he gets no criticism at all.

 

 

Multitude is honestly hella forgettable outside out of Fils de joie (MV of the year tho yes ma'am) and Pas vraiment. So deserved flop!

The music ain't it 

I've tried his new stuff and I couldn't get into it. I think him taking a ridiculously long break right after having a smash album is definitely the biggest factor though. He would have needed to come back with something better to overcome that and he didn't. 

he looks soooo creepy and unsettling now, like it literally makes me uncomfortable.

OT: he is not a flop? Hes big here in Europe and his recent album received much acclaim and went #1 in various countries

Isn't 2x Platinum a good number? I mean, he didn't released an album for nine years

I love him but i hate to admit that his new music is not cup of my tea. 

His numbers are just fine. Not as good as Racine but certainly not a flop. And his music is still great and I don't understand how anyone who had followed him through Racine is shocked by his new image

And stromae’s new music is honestly really really bad. I am disappointed. 

I mean his last album before Multitude was almost a decade ago so I'm sure it affect him on the charts

 

But he still scored #1 single on SNEP this year so he's far from over

I suppose he took too much time in between albums.

 

The hiatus was because of his mental wellbeing though  he went through hell.

He had two big hits in France I believe so I wouldn't say his comeback flopped there, but he's definitely making a lot less noise outside of French speaking regions compared to "Papaoutai" and "Alors on Dance". He waited 9 years is why  He had so much hype and could've made a true global crossover if he had released another album in 2015-2016.

 

I do think "L'enfer" should've been the lead though. He was known for being really innovative and he needed a jaw-dropping single as a comeback and that's the only one on the album. Like the bit where it gets all glitchy with the choir is a WOW moment, whereas "Sante" felt kind of basic and like a 3rd or 4th single. But at that point he didn't have the comeback hype anymore so the song didn't cross over.

I like his new album but yeah he took way too long to come back. Rap & "urban" music is like 90% of the French charts now, Angele was a bit of an anomaly  

I think many people were expecting a bop like Papaoutai or smth and when he didn't comeback with that that's when people started tuning out.
