I literally just farted from laughing so hard.  

Banning members for 3 months may have something to do with it 

 

 

I think it also has a lot to do with pop stars not caring that much anymore. A forum of stans lives from the heat and there wasn't that much of it since like 2015.

Honestly, I feel like the posts decreased significantly when the new layout was installed. I know a lot of work went into changing it, but the old dated looking layout was much easier on the eyes. The old one also didn't come with 503 errors... Then the thread reset happened - losing the Demi and Nicki megathreads alone was a very dark day for the site.

Mods became hyper-sensitive and started handing out WPs and bans like it was candy. I once got a WP for somewhat jokingly calling Billie Eilish a flop.

Besides all of the above, the culture in general is just ugly and stupid. It’s barren and desolate and pop isn’t really fun anymore. It’s the not universe it used to be, with at least half a dozen fan favorites participating at any given time. Now we’re reliant on individual people or releases that are increasingly rare for something that resembles the hype and involvement of the good old days.

To answer OP, this is all because our owner is MIA. Staff are struggling just to keep up with reports and other mundane tasks because of the errors and other back end issues caused by someone who responds to us about twice a year.

oh and lately the ads (which are fine just very excessive,, sometimes i see 4 huge ads before even getting to the first post of a thread) and that glitch where the reply box literally doesn’t load on half the threads 

I remember long ass meltdowns in The Lounge with over 20 pages especially drama threads it was honestly so entertaining. And the funny threads and the threads ruined by one post.

I think this is the big one. Online communities need things like PYP (which was once so active that I knew what most active users looked like) and for people to feel comfortable sharing things about themselves.
 

Culturally I think things just changed too much. Opposing fan bases literally hate each other. Everyone takes everything so personally. Years ago people were able to drag each other’s faves and still be friends.

Base threads fragmented the forum a bit, but the rise of things like discord probably pushed it over the edge even more. Lots of people make connections here and then just leave for something that makes conversations easier.  Years ago people were happy with long wall conversations.. but things change and that’s just archaic now. I’m not too active on here anymore but it used to be for every few posts I made someone would reach out on my wall to keep the conversation going. 
 

All those things add up and cause the forum to be less active which then makes the forum have less of a unique identity. We used to make memes here that went to tumblr and Twitter. Now I think we just take the culture from other platforms.

Classic ATRL had errors that would sometimes last minutes upon minutes causing the site to become unavailable. Error 503 is like a blessing compared to back then.

I can barely even express myself without getting banned, both myself and another Jesy Nelson stan  @The Slayerboth got a 2 / 3 week ban the day before Boyz was released for defending her at the time, multiple users ganged up on us / posted vile comments about weight, mental health, appearance etc and to my knowledge they never got banned.

The closing of SYG and NHB, and a strict warning system that sterilized the forum of entertaining discussions and some of its most interesting members.

The little m*dsters easily locked anti gaga threads when it easily reach 15-30 pages thread. It’s not good for business darling.
