As a Gen Z, I would say open the gates for new members! Let people be messy, loosen the belt just a little. Stan culture has a chance of flourishing here, but with all the restrictions and overall millennial demographic the forum gives gay millennial coffee/brunch restaurant vibes.

I’ve been a very active user for years in here until I decided to stop posting in 2020 for 2 years until some weeks ago when I casually decided to check what was the situation in here out of curiosity.
I stopped posting and visiting the site basically for some of the reasons that have been mentioned already, in first repetitive trolling childish discussions became stale and annoying to me along with the usual users always attached to those.
I was tired of the continue negativity in here to the point that I couldn’t even enjoy a release anymore, I’m too old and so not interested in being part of stale and pointless stan wars-fights, the rare times I got WPs it was always for superficial reasons as well considering I’ve never had problematic behavior in here in general and at the same time it was definitely frustrating to see users that contributed to this board only with trolling and problematic behaviors since years getting a pass continuosly.

 

Closing SYG was definitely for the best in my opinion, the situation with that thread was out of control with people using it as vent to say the most terrible and vile things ever without being able of control themselves, no matter if that made certain users go away.

I mean myself personally. I don't want a racist cesspool of a site, but I do think that the mods and some of the rules need to be loosened up. Getting a 1-2 week ban for a thirst post that before would have gotten you a warning point is ridiculous. As people have already mentioned, mods hand out WPs and bans like candy, some of the rules are ridiculous too, like the nickname rule. If it's not a racist nickname then we shouldn't get a WP or a ban for it.

I feel like Popjustice Forum is much better for actual civilised and serious discussions as they won't get warning points or banned there, here was only good for a bit of light trolling but that's not even fun anymore because of the warning points.

It's true, but the groupthink can be rampant on there. Even in some of the threads, it feels a bit cliquey.

I think a lot of people miss that if you troll responsibly, then you won't receive any WPs or if you do, they'll be minor.  Before I was a mod, it was like 3 years since my latest WP and I definitely had a little fun here and there when posting.

I would love to open the gates to new members, but we have to get the server situation under control first.  We can't get a lot of new members and then that cause the servers to shut down.  Hopefully soon(ish) once we finish making enough ad money to buy all the plugins we need we can get a decent sized new group in!

Thirst posts won't be warned at all in The Roof, and we were only harsh about them in Celebria for a bit to get everyone to use the new proper home for those posts.

 

I'm not sure the nicknames issue is a big enough problem to warrant changing our rules but it's something the staff can keep in mind when we're discussing rules in the future!

We would LOVE that.  We have had so many plans for ATRL that we've tested out since I've been a mod that have fallen away due to the state of the website that we would love to bring back consistently (playlists, reviews, better official social media, interviews, etc).  

 

I think the staff/admins would like to try just a few more things before resorting to a brand new site.  We would have to change the forum name since our owner owns all rights to the ATRL branding which would really suck, but it's something that continues to be brought up as an option when we have our monthly rants about how awful the owner is.  

I've been on this forum since my 14th (I'm now 26) and the main reason I got inactive is because of the terrible servers. Like there's no worse way to ruin the fun than the 503 message. I also think the big reset was a terrible decision. Why would you delete the best (and worst) memories of this forum. It's like throwing away an old photobook.

This site is just always finding new ways to fall apart.  503s, 207s, other past issues, it's just something that has plagued this site forever.  The latest issue we've been experiencing is the broken reply boxes... now we can barely reply on mobile.  Whoever the owner is really should consider selling it to someone who is going to care.

This is what bothers me the most pointless and annoying decision.

 

Another thing I've noticed is that admins often don't take into account users' complaints and I saw some widely shared opinions getting discarded because an admin liked things better in another way (for example, the panned round avis). This is not how you run a place, sometimes you have to surrender to the majority's demand for it not to become a ghost town.
