It failed to generate as much sales and streams as its big sister Folklore has.

 

Is evermore a flop or a success?

No acoustic folk album that goes platinum will ever be a flop.

An acoustic folk Grammy campaign that has sold almost 2 million EAS.  In what world can that be considered a flop?  

It's going to be 2X platinum eligible in a few months, it's almost been streamed 2 Billion times on Spotify, it has a #1 single, it spent 4 weeks at #1, it was nominated for AOTY, it's an entirely unprompted album that got one live performance across the entire era (which lasted 9 weeks before getting cut off), and did I mention that it's a ******* indie-folk record with very little mainstream pop appeal. If that was any other pop girl's album, let alone their NINTH album, we would be in complete agreement that it was a smashing success, all factors considered. It might be Taylor's worst performing album, but it's doing a lot better than many "smashes" from the other girls. 

 

Evermore was a SUCCESS 

Nowhere near to flop territory. Also, people with taste know that it's better than folklore

Lol at people still pushing the narrative of it being a folk album, it’s a pop record with folk influences, but in no way evermore is a flop album, is nearly 2x platinum after only a year and some months of getting released, this is also Taylor’s 9th album, most pop stars don’t even get a gold certificated album with their 9th effort, especially one that was not that promoted outside of one performance, some remixes for the lead and vinyls, that’s hella impressive if you ask me.

It's a flop for Taylor's astronomical standards at best.

It didn't make the IFPI Global All Format or Album Sales chart for both 2020 & 2021 so clearly it's a flop.

It will most likely reach 100 weeks on BB200 too something many SMASH albums haven't reached too.

a success in general terms, a failure in taylor terms. i know she was pressed about only one grammy nomination and the lower album sales.  

Definitely not. If evermore is a flop most pop girls records would be considered one. 

If AOTY nominated 2x platinum critically acclaimed biggest vinyl album of 2021 Evermore is a flop then what does that make most albums?

It gave me Willow aka my favorite taylor song (the first one I actually loved) so.. Yeah

It’s not a huge smash like all of Taylor’s other albums, but definitely not a flop. Next to the standards of everyone else it’s a hit.

Not in a million years could the amazing Evermore be considered a flop. It just didn't generate as much hype as its sister album because it was the second time she dropped a surprise album, so it wasn't quite as much of a shock. Plus. since day one it's been marketed as a companion album/part two of Folklore so naturally it's considered more of a continuation of the Folklore era, rather than an entirely new album cycle if that makes sense? I don't see Folklore/Evermore as entirely independent albums/album cycles because of their sonic/aesthetic similarities and the small gap between their releases, they represent one musical 'era' in my eyes. 

Its a very local album.

Not known outside the US.

Resounding success, especially considering Folklore was still sucking up all its hype given the Grammy campaign and year-end lists. Also her best studio album, legendary quality, deserved AOTY more than Folklore
