Finished Night of the Hunters as well. Exhausting, but in a totally different way from AATS. Shattering Sea, Nautical Twilight, Ghost, Star Whisperer are discography highlights.

Yass, you get it. The highs are incredible. Snowblind instrumental is also really great. I listen to the album often in the morning on the train as a gentle wake up.

Gold Dust is really almost completely unnecessary — those songs already sounded orchestral on their home albums. My boyfriend keeps putting on that version of Winter and I scream every time. Best version of Star of Wonder though.

Okay so here are some of my loosely organised thoughts on the show I saw last night in Bristol. As excited as I was for Fire To Your Plain, Iieee is obviously the superior song and opener. I knew we w

  • Kinda random place to start, but @blade bird suggested I listen to Scarlet's Hidden Treasures right away, so I did! Loved it! I just left some quick comments, not a full blown analysis or anything. M

I liked Flavor and Dutchman, they're giving a different vibe! Star of Wonder was very pretty.

Stay on Démodé's Tori Deep Dive next week for the Unrepentant Geraldines listen, which songs will I like, which will I love and which will I inevitably pan?

Weatherman crushes my every time. Great storytelling. So if you don't like it you better just say nothing! (Kidding of course - one of my favourite things in the Tori fandom is the difference of opinions. I was talking to this guy on Grindr with a humongous dick who's favourite album of hers is AAtS … like, @John Slayne what's good?)

Flying Dutchman is lowkey one of my favourite Tori songs. I relate to the lyrics so much; there's really so much kindness and understanding in her words at her best. Can't believe it wasn't part of the standard edition of LE.

AATS isn't great but it's not as bad as people say wrt convo above. I do think Unrepentant Geraldines is great

I never connected with SLG... I love Rattlesnakes but that's about it. I don't really consider it a part of her canon.

glad i'm not the only one. this is that album for me (even though i have three or four different copies of it--i was having my swiftie moment).

John Slayne is well endowed, I have unrepentant thoughts about them too

You've inspired me to finally listen to this in full. Maybe I'll do it next week.

'Not every girl is a pearl' = Tori classily dragging the songs on AAtS?

I feel like Abnormally is one of those albums that tastes bitter at the start (sweeter at the end) and some of the other tracks can grow on you while Night of Hunters is more intriguing at first but just drains you on every listen and I find it very hard to revisit. Even the individual songs themselves feel like a huge effort if you're not just using it as background music. I remember having a kii or two at Battle of the Trees back in the day but I just would never reach for it now.

You didn't mention Fire To Your Plain or Oscar's Theme so there's at least two more opportunities for AATS to worm its way in. coffee2

the melodies are not the problem. lyrics and vocal process is so jarring

I'm doing a listen of Gold Dust (album) now (veeerrrry slow Saturday) and the way the instrumental is slaying but the voice seems to be recorded with tinfoil wrapped around her face is so weird rip

I wouldn't recommend Gold Dust to anyone. rip It's really so useless. If you want to hear Tori with an orchestra, it's better to go down a youtube hole of her shows with the Metropole Orchestra. Her lives from 2010-2012 are really amazing - SUCH a shame it was capped off with that useless "reimagining" of orchestral versions of songs THAT ALMOST ALL HAD STRINGS ON THEIR ORIGINAL VERSIONS ANYWAY rip

It always sends me that the riff in this is Let It Will Be by Madonna

but I love Oysters heart Unrepentant is one of her least interestingly or adventurously produced works but she tapped into some heavy emotions and her voice sounds good on it.

First of all you scared me, I saw the notifications number and I thought I was in that thread again.

I had given up by Oscar's Theme tbh 😭 but I may try again sometime.

I listened to Flavor and the orchestral reimagining so much today tho, then ran back to The Beauty of Speed

where ate you listening to Oscar's Theme because it doesn't show on my Spotify...

Love yourself and switch to Apple Music

Oscar's theme is available for me on Spotify btw

(I also hate AM algorithm)

UG is such a slog to get through, AATS sweetie I'm so sorry

Yeap that's about it, a shame cause I wanted to like it but it feels way too uninspired at times. 16 Shades, Selkie, Oyster, Weatherman are gorgeous tho

I don't think it's a success the whole way through, but most of it just sounds light on its feet, playful even, as opposed to the majority of AATS so I'm going to blame this flop taste on your shitty spotify audio quality.

I was being a bit dramatic for the plot, sister, don't get enraged 😅

The truth is either of them failed to click on first listen, but I was able to enjoy a handful of songs from Geraldines. Weatherman and Oysters are Def highlights

I'm not serious either, sis heart2 It's not like UG is even remotely among my favourite albums of Tori. I am serious about hating Spotify though. The way I tortured my ears for years with that awful quality.

I'm mostly happy you get to listen to Native Invader now, which has really cemented itself as one of my Tori favourites (though about half of the album took some time to take to it).

I'll spin it again soon I guess but America had such tragic lyrics and I was taken aback from the get go.

I get what you're saying about Spotify though, it feels compressed at times.

I don't think they're her best lyrics or anything, but they're quite inoffensive to me? Maybe I have lost all sense of taste dd.

The way I had completely blocked Giant's Rolling Pin out of my head. Now that's a career low point rip I do wonder what goes through her head sometimes
