You know, my character in this narrative is flawed. She chose luxury over art. I'm only asking the listener to suspend one truth, and that is that rather than marrying a rock and roll roadie, instead I married somebody rich. So that's how I'm choosing to document what's happening in America, because it's a metaphor for the fact that a lot of Americans chose something, and I don't think they can believe what is happening as a consequence of that. I don't think a lot of people believed, for instance, that we would be in a war with Iran right now. I don't think a lot of people saw this coming. Now, some political journalists did. Some were warning us. Some professors of history have been shouting at us to understand. But where we are today, I don't think a lot of Americans could see it, and I think a lot of Americans are traumatised.

I don't want to really analyse "Reindeer King" because I feel like it's a whole world. It's a very emotional state, that song, for me.

And it's one that took quite a long time to come together, right? I think you've said before that you started writing it around 2006, for American Doll Posse.

If that's what I said, then that's true [laughs]. I forget things sometimes. But if I said it, then there were seeds for the song that were planted at that time. Similarly, there's a song on this new record, "Flood" that I started around 2009, maybe 2010, so I've been working on it for a long, long time. It was just an instrumental at first, and it's taken many years and the newest story for me to find a lyric that's interesting.

"[laughs] The question is whether I'll still be married if I make my husband [Mark Hawley is Tori's husband and sound engineer - ed.] do all that work. This record alone took a lot to bring to life. Whether the B-sides thing was a joke or not, I genuinely need to check in with myself. Some unreleased stuff does exist, especially from the early 2000s. But there was a reason those things weren't released at the time. So I need to check with myself if I was joking or not."

I feel like The Beekeeper is an album that grows on you as you age. And it is perfect for the first warm days of the year.

I was watching an interview of her talking about Tori and the Muses on GMA, they asked her why she thinks it's important that people find their inner child, and she started talking about fairies from another dimension and I was like... okay

What a record

Although the badly photoshopped graphic above sorta kinda matches the production design, I need to admit that this album struck something in me. Addition of Light Divided is literally illuminating, Speaking with Trees had me tearing up without understanding why, ugh her sentimentality just catches me. Devil's Bane chorus is stuck to my head and Swim to NYS is also very good if I ingore the "and you gave X 100" part.

Spies is not as bad as the fandom says but it definitely didn't need to be 6 minutes OtO's melody is extremely catchy, I simply do not care for the chorus lyrics tho, what was she thinking

And then this trifecta: Flowers Turn to Gold -----> 29 Years is impeccable. I loved her tribute to her mother, Flowers is so good. MWW is my favourite on the album, the chorus flows literally like water, I love the intricacies of the production (finally something noteworthy).

How Glass is made is a very very cute closer to the album, this and Native Invader reinstated my faith in her after it was a tad shaken with AATS and UG.

Wow, what a journey.....

Ocean is such a grower too, at least for me.

Anyway, I haven't fallen in so much love with an artist in a long, long time. This was and is an extraordinary journey. The way I thought I was gonna be thrown off by her post 2003 discography and I found it so mature and sincere had me on a chokehold.

Not understanding people who hate her post like 2002 discography because this song and many others are so tea

Yeah, there's so much worthy stuff still. And a lot of songs and albums unlock for me with aging. You going through ADP made me listen again with new ears, and some of the lyrics really hit now whereas they didn't really before.

I think ADP was the most difficult album to get through because there was so much lost potential with production choices.
