Okay so here are some of my loosely organised thoughts on the show I saw last night in Bristol. As excited as I was for Fire To Your Plain, Iieee is obviously the superior song and opener. I knew we w

  • Kinda random place to start, but @blade bird suggested I listen to Scarlet's Hidden Treasures right away, so I did! Loved it! I just left some quick comments, not a full blown analysis or anything. M

Sleeps With Butterflies is lovely ... I wish its production was better because it is one of the best melodies of her career. And the lyrics really touch me, very mature about a relationship; "I won't hold on to the tail of your kite .... but I believe I'm worth coming home to" is exactly the sentiment I strive towards.

Oh to have witnessed Tori in the 90's ... I'm so jeaulous of my elders.

Scarlet is also my most listened to album. It always hits -- it's my comfort blanket in sonic form.

These days I've basically been playing Bliss on a loop. Such a powerful song about the urge to be free and the realization that you never truly are. Very Freudian.

Also, been thinking about getting "bliss of another kind" as a tramp stamp above my ass, because I think that would be funny. But maybe not.

No I see the vision!

Bliss is one of her best songs, I was lucky to see it live on the last tour

not when there's Cruel or Father Lucifer but 90s Tori is really unbeatable

Boys for Pele, Choir Girl and To Venus and Back is my favourite period

Re-listened to Scarlet's Walk yesterday after... maybe 7 years? I loved it, it felt like a warm blanket with a very october-novemberish vibe. I haven't listened to anything from 2005 up to OTO which I thought was decent so based on the fanbase's comments I'm dreading for what's coming. rip

There's still a lot of beauty to be found! The only album I cannot seem to warm to is AAtS. Reindeer King, for instance, is top tier Tori to me.

The live version of Sugar on To Venus and Back is lowkey incredible. I can't stop listening to it.

I love AATS, it's a top 3 post-Scarlet album for me

I consider myself a stan but I don't think I ever made it to the end of Midwinter Graces... or Night of Hunters, for that matter rip

Scarlet's Hidden Treasures is almost just as gorgeous too.

I liked Mountain, Ruby, Seaside, maybe Bug? It's a cute companion and I'm happy it exists tbh

Also, if The Beekeeper was 12-13 tracks instead of 185, it would be a stellar album

title track, parasol, sweet the sting, sleeps with butterflies, mother revolution, marys of the sea!!!!!

there are about 8-10 songs that I'm obsessed with and listen to often, but the whole album is like 25 songs long... plus the concept just comes across as very goofy to me rip

the highs are very high for me though! but overall the album is a mess

It took a while, but Night of Hunters is incredible (to me) if you leave the musical theatre songs out of it (sorry Tash!). I think the whole thing would've been a home run if she didn't go the way of a story cycle and used the classical pieces as a way to deal with personal themes, BUT the best songs can be read that way. I also just love it when she's in her composer bag.

Midwinter Graces is something I sometimes put on in december, but it is very uneven. I love the pagan hymn Winter's Carol and Our New Year though.

Toast is also devastating. A song about the loss of her brother. Every time she plays it live I cry a little.

I need a remaster of the Beekeeper. Too much of it sounds muffled.
