I really love the sudden blast from the 1st chorus too. By normal formula, they would make it soft and sultry first then gets louder in the 2nd and 3rd.

 

I also first assumed that there would be extra layes of ad-libs towards the end, but no, she keeps belting solo from first verse to the outro, which is a brave take.

Admittedly that is assuming how the politics of a hypothetical race might turn out; if she does wind up winning for HMH it would still be a slay.

a second BOS win wouldn’t really hurt, at the end of the day its just a technical category. we know she just needs a good script & competent director, that was HOG’s main issue, its polarization reviews and horrid pacing+editing was the perfect excuse for AMPAS to snub her despite Ga carrying the film throughout the entirety of awards season

The drum buildup leading into the 2nd chorus definitely helps it 

Hold My Hand will never be a hit cause it's not a particularly good ballad. Its team could have promoted it to give it a top 10 for a week but then when the promo dissapeared it would go to the top 30-40 then top 60 then OUT, because it's not a song people want to listen to. It's also the first summer without restrictions since 2020, people wanna hear bops not ballads, much less a mediocre 6.8/10 ballad 

 

Someone should make a Hold My Hand exit but instead of it's chorus it has the Shallow one. I'm sure people would see it as a remix of Shallow and take it to #1, cause HMH with a chorus similar to Shallows would definitely go from a 6.8 to a 8.9

the reason for the streams is not the intro is the lack of playlists, that is so obvious.

On PopA911 forum there are people that checked skip rates and the intro seems to be a big turn off for the listeners.

Tbf maybe you don’t stan former pop girls but they have their own fan bases. But you’re right, charts do matter. What I should have said is that there are multiple charts to be considered and just saying that HMH should have been pushed by the label because it could do certain things is silly. It’s one song from a soundtrack and from a monetary perspective wasn’t going to do anything EVEN if it went #1. It was a promo single not for an album, but for a movie and its doing it’s job. 
 

And BTW look at the top 10 on the charts and tell me that HMH not being there means any of those artists are bigger then her. That was my point.

You can almost hear Gaga trying to slam the breaks to bring in a melody for the “you can cry every last tear / I won’t leave till I understand / promise me just hold my hand” and it ends up sounding like a mouthful to try and sing along to and the lyrics feel more confused than powerful.
 

That said I still can’t get over fans complaining of unpleasant screaming because the top line vocals are pure gold regardless of the chorus pacing, and thankfully we get the real release in the bridge / outro instead.

 

The song actually reminds me a lot of Wind Beneath My Wings (particularly Bette’s own stylistic choice for the song’s climax). The true power ballad lineage shines through. It’s just a shame the chorus is as choppy as it is.

Both of these. The chorus is missing that Gaga magic found in JD, PF, BR, & Shallow. It’s a shame bc HMH should’ve joined her mega classics club, but the chorus just isn’t there.
