Yup. I mean. It’s been way over-performing its playlist reach for awhile now. That, combined with the Shazam numbers and digital numbers, there’s no excuse that it’s so low  But whatever, we know her team sucks.

A score nom would be a power moment too but seems less likely.

HMH is fine. Tbh no one cares about charts in 2022. It’s not 2011. There is too little money to be made from the the metrics that they use to determine what’s popular. The true test is what your empire looks like and based on that we know who the real MPGs are (but I wish music played a bigger piece of their portfolios tbh lol).

Anyone else notice that they removed the rattle sound from the Dancin’ in Circles performances at the Joanne World Tour? The verses sounded empty without them.

i have no doubt she’ll score another BOS nom, the musical branch seems to be more open to her than any other pop girls, plus TG being a hugely known and beloved American franchise makes it even easier for her to nab it, unless another Bruno/Shallow/LTG appears out of the blue

Anyway, the HMH outro remains glorious.

 

My problem with the song that keeps it from reaching classic status for me, is the chorus melody falls a little flat after it bursts in - I LOVE the drama and the emotional punch of “SO CRY TONIGHT / BUT DON’T YOU LET GO OF MY HAND” and it’s so promising, and just when you think she’s going to squeeze the emotional wringer, it doesn’t really go anywhere?

You can almost hear Gaga trying to slam the breaks to bring in a melody for the “you can cry every last tear / I won’t leave till I understand / promise me just hold my hand” and it ends up sounding like a mouthful to try and sing along to and the lyrics feel more confused than powerful.
 

That said I still can’t get over fans complaining of unpleasant screaming because the top line vocals are pure gold regardless of the chorus pacing, and thankfully we get the real release in the bridge / outro instead.

 

The song actually reminds me a lot of Wind Beneath My Wings (particularly Bette’s own stylistic choice for the song’s climax). The true power ballad lineage shines through. It’s just a shame the chorus is as choppy as it is.

I hope someday she will finally serve an album full of 4-6 minutes songs with 1 minute intros. The AHDH generation of 2 minute songs are annoying to me.

Yeah for sure, I’m just a bit cautious giving the Academy a chance to give her some easy flowers with a second BoS win — especially after how well received she was at this year’s ceremony — when it might make members more reluctant to lend support in a future Best Actress race and we end up with another snub.
 

Admittedly that is assuming how the politics of a hypothetical race might turn out; if she does wind up winning for HMH it would still be a slay.
