I get that, but "critical reception" is, in my opinion, a B Tier stat to brag with anyways — it's low key the thing you fall back on if your fave is flopping commercially but is lucky enough to strike a chord with the relatively small handful of people that make up the circle of critics that define "critical acclaim".

 

Acclaim is nice, but it's not make-or-break in my opinion, especially when, again, the context of the first movie doing meh critically but still smashing and winning an Oscar are taken into account.

I'm not blaming or making excuses. But the truth is Todd Philips was never an A-list but just a mediocre B-movie director in hollywood, even nominated for BD. Before Joker1, his most pretigious films are the Hangover series which are far away from masterpiece.

 

We need Gar to work with more "STABLE" A-list directors like Spielberg if she wants to go in depth in film industry and snatch the oscar.

 

I couldn't see Ga starring in some pure art films which i wish she would, cuz she's the kind of typical hollywood actress, technically and temperamentally.

I couldn't really care less about the current RT and MC scores, especially since the first movie received similar scores yet absolutely smashed at the BO and the lead still won BA even with a middling critical view of the overall film.

Same, for some reason the HOG reviews felt harder.

 

And somehow, she always stays winning, the negatives reviews of Joker are praising her, so we are fine.

The mixed reviews dont even matter because the critics have praised Gaga's performance so she remains untouched regardless how the film does

After these reviews I have a very hard time believing Gaga will be a serious contender for the BSA Oscar nomination. Best to keep low expectations. I even doubt this will outdo the first one in terms of BO. Word-of-mouth will not be friendly based on these reviews.

She could totally get Anna Biller funded. The visuals would eat, it'd be fun, & she'd be the star (the antithesis of Toad, his movies). She needs women & homosexual directors.

Ugh. I'm honestly shocked and also really disappointed that both the singing at the stairs scene AND the "you're coming with me to hell" kissing the protester scene were both allegedly left out of the final cut. The former because she belted her ass off while dancing up and down and the latter because it literally went VIRAL multiple times and would have been an easy marketing slam dunk. So frustrating. Although tbf, there were supposedly multiple endings shot so there was always a decent chance that the stairs scene would eventually not make it. Still, it sucks.

 

She needs better directors who understand how to utilize her potential to the fullest, and substantive roles that bring the best out of her. Fortunately, the critics are actually on her side, they recognize what she brings to the table as an actress first and foremost and not just a popstar for box office and want to see her succeed in character-driven films.

 

Ultimately though, Gar has a bright future in film ahead of her so I'm not too worried. Her time to walk up the Oscars stage as the Best Actress winner will eventually come. I'm so proud of her for everything that she's achieved so far in her still nascent film career and excited to see the rest of the campaign unfold. Nobody else could EVER, like forreal!
