They should've just made it a pre-announced award like Vanguard. Seems weird to have a one off category for most iconic performances.

I don't think Gaga herself feels above the VMAs tbh. They've always loved her and she's always loved them. I don't think she would have gone along with the Tricon gimmick if she didn't like them.

Wait was there any official reason why they didn't just give her the Vanguard in 2020. The whole invention of the "Tricon" felt so out of left field and the fact that they haven't given it to anyone else since then is even weirder
