I’ll never understand why it’s hated it’s literally a bop. The lyrics may be a bit Shallow.mp3 but the production is immaculate.

The lyrics are so, so, SO bad. It sounds derivative of her old music (especially Born This Way) to the extent that it feels like a lazy parody at best and a huge regression at worst. The production is unlistenable because that ugly misused sample vandalises most of it.  

 

The video is also the worst thing she has ever released, period. It served this level of cringe but without any of the irony:

 

 

It's clear why it's hated on its own terms, but the fact that it followed ASIB and wasted her newfound favourability is perhaps what is most egregious about it to a lot of people.

one of my rl friends put this into his spotify playlist and I was SHOOK when he played it. He‘s a fan of drill beats. Another friend of mine also likes Gaga and she requested Replay to play at a party

May the first album opener be a moment and the it moment. Then she can do the organic second single and the rest of the album will stream massively.

This, she always have this huge hype surrounding her lead singles. Even PI had insane hype initially! But after people heard the sing, they turned away on their backs and never looked back. It's way too polarizing and "acquired taste"! (Solar Power tease nnn)

 

Anyway, for her next lead, we need her to do a pretty song that is forward-thinking/fresh but at the same time digestible and consumable for the GP and the airwaves people (e.g. Rain on Me). That's the way to go if she still wants people to GAG without completely throwing them off (e.g. loud-ass, overproduced yet substance-less Stupid Love). Then, she can go crazy with the deep album cuts since fans stream the album mostly anyways (e.g. Alice, 911, Replay, Enigma, etc.). 

 

Yeah, Gaga’s lead single game never recovered after Born This Way. I said what I said. She needs to try harder to pick her leads from now on.

Actually, I used to DISLIKE that video cuz I thought it's too damn weird (the masochism, religion and Nazi-like (??) imageries) and the story line is long as hell. But that's literally its charm. Gaga's vid intended to show flaws and not hide them. We we're clowning Gaga for not having pretty perfect videos with short storyline yet high replayability like those Katy, Rihanna & Taylor ones in 2010.

 

And look at us now, aside from 911, many of Gaga's MVs have been simplified. It'd be an absolute blessing for us to get another MV with Alejandro's quality.

Stupid Love is cute but either Alice or Free Woman should have been the lead single.

 

I’m leaning more on FW because it’s a lot more accesible and it would’ve coincided with the whole woman’s movement at the time. 
 

Alice, conceptually, would’ve been better though.
