"Born This Way", despite all the reductive shade, is a song that boldly conflates religion with sexuality. Taylor Swift has never uttered a line as ambitious and controversial as "God makes no mistakes, I was born this way" on a radio hit.

 

So basically, let's put some respecT on Ga Ga her name because she may not be a three time AOTY winner, but if you compare her Greatest Hits with Ms Swift, it's not Gaga who ends up losing. And that's not shade to Taylor, it's simply a result of her going for easy hits her whole career. Even for 'Evermore' she had to include a basic pop song like "Willow", overstuffed with similes in an attempt to be more sophisticated yet ends up just as simplistic as her past pop hits. It's a 'Fearless' track with indie folk salad dressing. 'Lover' featured her most expansive sound yet, but for the singles she went with carbon copies of past hit songs. She hasn't figured out how to tie her sonic evolutions to the commercial demands of the public, the way Madonna did effortlessly and I would argue Gaga has done too.

And y'all really underestimate how much Gaga is still tied to her earlier weirder stuff. As for what Gaga "nEeDs" to do to, I fully agree that she doesn't have to prove herself as a musician or songwriter at all. But aiming to make a unique body of work that brings together her various talents and is rooted in more complex artistry feels like a very obvious and natural progression for her career. And it would do more to push her into legend territory than any amount of AC fodder or darwk bawp hits would at this stage which is presumably her end game.

I saw somewhere this week that it was at ~8.1M units. I think its more tbh but it will eventually get there

Beyoncé is definitely known for being a vocal powerhouse, she has some of the best vocals of the last generation(s) of artists. I would say her, gaga, and Adele are most known for there good voices out of the big artists the last 20 years

HMH is arguably a better coming out anthem than BTW. BTW is definitely the quintessential pride anthem though.

It is crazy that Gaga and Bloodpop were the only song writers and produced most of it. I would never have thought Bloodpop could produce a song like this. Gaga really brings out the best in every producer she works with
