This is all well and good but means nothing to a fan of her music

I will admit she has done magnificent in her '' all-rounder '' route in terms of gaining INDUSTRY acclaim. My issue is that she is becoming a jack of all trades, master of none. In her attempt to be as diverse as possible, she is spreading herself extremely thin and not focusing on one field or craft in particular, causing her output to be... somewhat stifled and middling. One might say she is an expert on music, but I think she still has a long road ahead in terms of truly being recognized as an expert in the musical field beyond vocal prowess. And she will not find that expertise if she doesn't focus, at least I don't believe that.

I also have a major issue in her transformative chameleon-like approach to her career that is fueled by her '' all-rounder '' entertainer role, in which she puts on a costume and sometimes even a persona depending on what she is promoting. This has me annoyed solely because I don't know who the heck this woman is anymore. It becomes harder to pin her down, and instead of being an enigma to the public and her fans and causing intrigue, she comes off as disingenuous and inauthentic. It'd be easier to support her career in the many fields she tries to excel in outside of pop music would she actually have some consistency.

I relate and enjoy her the most when she is releasing pop/electronic music. That is when she feels the most authentic to me. Her dabbling in other fields and genres have not brought me closer to her, rather pushed me away, even if I enjoy some of her output.

I do agree with everything @toanythingtaboo said but there are a few good points here too. I definitely do not think that she's an expert on music. She doesn't really have anything left to prove success wise (#1 songs in different decades, #1 albums, one of the biggest albums this century, several memorable hits and future classics, great touring power, Oscar, Grammys, VMAs, etc) but I do believe that she still has it in her to make another magnum opus.

I'm probably one of Joanne's biggest stans here but I still admit that it had its flaws. Chromatica was cute and had some career highlights (also served some of her best visuals) but I consider it her most middle-of-the-road album to this date. I'm still waiting for Born This Way sister.

However, the "persona" thing has been there since the start of her career though. The Gaga of The Fame is literally a whole persona. It's a Gaga thing to do and she transforms into whatever thing she's promoting/interested in. Every character, persona, album, era is her. I do understand how confusing it looks from an outsider's POV (or why some people think its inauthentic) but I thought we all knew this as fans.

Gaga will have another masterpiece album if she works with AG Cook

This is better produced than all of Chromatica maybe sans Babylon

Thing is basically none of her contemporaries are “experts” in music either. Being masterful in music doesn’t really seem like a thing this generation tbh. She’s probably already the closest to being an expert compared to others like Katy or Rih or Bey.

she isn't "jack of all trades", she's an artist and she can express whichever way she wants.

Either way works, thanks Marry!

Also thanks to! @Rocket

The smartest thing would have been to make the three collabs the singles for Chromatica. Let’s face it, it’s difficult for her to get a solo smash these days. The era would have way more streams and sales

This! She does it all. She sings (and sings LIVE and well), she writes, she creates melodies, she produces, she has creative input, she plays instruments, she's a beast of a performer. There's nobody else who excels in so many different fields all at once (be it in music or outside of it) and there's a reason why half of ATRL can't stand it because she succeeds so effortlessly in anything that she takes up. Her ability to be so multi-dimensional (or as Taylor Swift put it best) is a boon and is exactly what makes her so interesting as an artist so to paint it as something of a detriment is utter BS.

She is at the stage where she needs an extra something to break through to the mainstream audience outside of her (admittedly huge) fanbase and get a real hit. And that's OK. She is still a megastar because she CAN break out given the right context and it happens every era. With "Million Reasons", it was the Super Bowl. With "Shallow", it was the movie connection, Oscars, and Bradley Cooper romance gossip. With "Rain On Me", it was the Ariana feature. We will see if Top Gun is big enough to make "Hold My Hand" into a hit.
