The fact that Madonna was the first mainstream artist to work with SOPHIE :toofunny3:

There's definitely a reason her discography is mostly panned :eli:

Like Celine's voice is amazing but going that route for a full album would honestly be a boring waste of Gar's talent.

Yes :weeps:

Honestly, not that many people know/care about Bey as a vocalist because she hasn't really been showing off that side of her musicianship since Listen probably. If you ask the GP Gaga would probably be the best known for her vocals. Either way, having a great voice is not the same as being a good songwriting and Gaga is equally if not better known than Bey for having a big belty voice, while also being a varied and interesting songwriter who spans multiple genres/subgenres from dance-pop to folk-pop.

Taylor literally uses the same 3 chords for all her song it's not even a competition.

They're all differently talented and have very different focuses for their career. Being a songwriter who fully knows their craft is not even a concern for the GP and while I understand the desire for Gaga to put out an album that is very much steeped in musical know-how, etc., she doesn't really need to to suceed. She's already a great hook writer and has been from the beginning of her career and she can play the piano better than any of her contemporaries can play any instrument (except maybe Ed with a guitar), she has nothing to prove tbh.

These lies about Bey and Taylor :deadbanana4: People know Bey is an all-time vocalist and artist and that Taylor is a lauded songwriter. We can personally feel some type of way about that but it won't change the narratives in the real world. Like I personally never thought Taylor was that amazing at songwriting until Folklore/Evermore, but people and critics still generally agreed that she was one of the best of her gen before that.

And y'all really underestimate how much Gaga is still tied to her earlier weirder stuff. Like the fact that the GP ate up Shallow doesn't change the fact that Gaga is first and foremost known as a popstar who changed the game. That is what her career was built upon, what people keep returning to in her catalog, what critics bring up when discussing her work, and what defines her iconography. There's a reason the meat dress is still talked about today. And if anyone is first and foremast known for their singing out of all the pop girlies 2000 and on, it's Adele.

As for what Gaga "nEeDs" to do to, I fully agree that she doesn't have to prove herself as a musician or songwriter at all. But aiming to make a unique body of work that brings together her various talents and is rooted in more complex artistry feels like a very obvious and natural progression for her career. And it would do more to push her into legend territory than any amount of AC fodder or darwk bawp hits would at this stage which is presumably her end game.

Maybe it's because I'm not in the US, Bey honestly isn't very much discussed outside gay circles. Taylor's songwriting talents are honestly not super amazing outside of her lyricism, though maybe the GP sees it differently.

I do agree that with the bolded part, but Ga Ga has a penchance for "dumbing down" her music (see making FW safer and more commercial than the demo) so I'm honestly not having high hopes for that. I do think she does have a lot of songwriting talent that she doesn't show because she thinks to commercial the music needs to be safe. A jazz-pop hybrid album would honestly be really cool and on-brand for her and I hope to see her go in that direction someday.

Instead she worked with MADeon and Zzzzzzzedd whose combined mediocrity almost destroyed her career. It's not a coincidence the two best and highest-charting songs on ARTPOP ("Applause" and "Dope") were songs they did not produce.

Taylor's problem is that her hits, the songs that the public, not stans or critics, associates with her, are lightweight and whiny pop songs. "You Belong with Me", "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", "Shake It Off", "Look What You Made Me Do", even "Lover". Don't get me wrong, they are BRILLIANT pop songs, super catchy, many people spend a lifetime trying to write songs so effortless, but to the public they register as very juvenile. They are bubblegum. Superficial songs complaining about ex boyfriends for the most part. Not the stuff of legends. Taylor is being portrayed by the media and industry as one of the all-time great songwriters but compare her catalogue of hits to the hits of Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Queen.... it ain't happening captain. They had hits with WEIGHT. Taylor has songs like that too, but they weren't the hits. If her greatest hits included the likes of "Long Live", "Holy Ground", and "Exile", then maybe.

And I would argue Gaga is stronger in that department and the public might agree. "Bad Romance", with its Hitchcock references and larger than life sound, doesn't just feel like a relationship song, it's a song about love as an all-consuming powerful force. I WANT YOUR LOVE AND I WANT YOUR REVENGE hits a hell of a lot harder than Shake It Off! Shake It Off! "Shallow" speaks for itself, connection with another human being as an antidote to the depressing routine and ephemeral highs of modern life. "Born This Way", despite all the reductive shade, is a song that boldly conflates religion with sexuality. Taylor Swift has never uttered a line as ambitious and controversial as "God makes no mistakes, I was born this way" on a radio hit.

So basically, let's put some respecT on Ga Ga her name because she may not be a three time AOTY winner, but if you compare her Greatest Hits with Ms Swift, it's not Gaga who ends up losing. And that's not shade to Taylor, it's simply a result of her going for easy hits her whole career. Even for 'Evermore' she had to include a basic pop song like "Willow", overstuffed with similes in an attempt to be more sophisticated yet ends up just as simplistic as her past pop hits. It's a 'Fearless' track with indie folk salad dressing. 'Lover' featured her most expansive sound yet, but for the singles she went with carbon copies of past hit songs. She hasn't figured out how to tie her sonic evolutions to the commercial demands of the public, the way Madonna did effortlessly and I would argue Gaga has done too.
