Lady Gaga

This is part 1 of the Lady Gaga discussion.

Featured Replies

Both of these can be true:

1) Gaga was depressed and not feeling herself during the recording of (most of) Chromatica, as she stated in multiple interviews, so although she was still very involved (writing the songs and performing them), she ultimately was less creatively involved with this album than any other album before and less passionate. The driving force behind it was her friend Bloodpop, who looked out for her and motivated her not to give up (which is incredible). This tracks with the absence of production credits and her much more lax attitude with collaborators then.

2) Gaga was not "forced" to record the album, and neither did she not care about it at all; it was a necessary step in her journey as a human being and an artist, but maybe one that she felt the need to leave behind quickly.

Replay would have been the best choice as a lead single in my opinion, It's a great and fun song and it represents Chromatica the best. Stupid Love is ok, I don't think It's a bad song like how others says but It's definitelly not lead single quality and it should have been dropped the moment it leaked because it also hurt the hype and momentum (but at the same time if we think about it, they already were shooting the music video + had deals for it).

Honestly, any Chromatica track was going to benefit from the ASIB high Gaga was riding on. Stupid Love just fizzed out because everyone and their mama was already familiar with it.

Exactly. Stupid Noise managing to debut at #5 with its quality + a leak 6 weeks ahead of its release was enough proof of that.

She had insane momentum going into Chromatica that she won't have this time around. Her catalog has been receiving lots of love, healthy streaming increases, songs going semi-viral, but I don't think all of this will necessarily translate into the new era. There's definitely some hype for her though, so they better not **** it up. The longevity will depend on the quality of the song and how relatable/replayable it is to the public.

Listening to that Replay interview made me realize how many songs on Chromatica went through dramatic changes from inception to final product

That we know of:

- Replay (based on the interview)

- 911 (Madeon spoke about how different the song was before he was asked to work on it)

- Babylon (the early demo leaked and we have an intermediate Haus Labs version)

- Rain On Me (demo's instrumental was extremely different and hook was different)

- Free Woman (similar as above)

- 1000 Doves (piano ballad initially, although this is common for other Gaga songs)

We're in the streaming era. "Proper eras" don't really happen anymore. LG7 will be out before Joker.

Inb4 the Friday before JFAD

I'll never forgive her for changing the production on Free Woman but thank God she scrapped the whole Rain On Me Demo.

Babylon is definitely better in its final version.

Yep. I can't imagine a better Babylon than the one we got, except for it's length.

Are we finally getting something? :jonnycat:

no! :giraffe:until someone confirms for sure the name of the single and the date then nothing's coming!

:ahh: Stupid Love was the dance pop song Gaga fans begged for, for a decade. Some of you only hate it because you were not able to live vicariously through its chart performance. Those of you coming up with ways to “guarantee longevity” are going to be disappointed and hate anything she puts out because nothing will change strategy wise. :rip:

poor Gaga. She could put out her magnum opus and her fans would still say it is bad if it does not go number one.

soon :gaygacat3:

I love Grammys on Me but the demo version at least deserved to be a B-side, 90s house perfection :wanda:

I was told we are getting a techno album. Stan card REACTIVATED

IS this tea, or speculation / common sense?

All I know is that the gay clubs play Stupid Love every weekend, and the gays live for it every time

Lowkey not excited for the lead but excited for LG7. Perfect Illusion and Stupid Love are some of my most disliked tracks on their respective albums

Dua for example I think is doing an amazing job right now with her being everywhere doing interviews, late-night talk shows, major magazines, different and exciting versions of Houdini, changing the aesthetic and building hype around the new record.

I'm not sure Dula is the shining example of promo when the single is charting below Tate and the aesthetic is totally unclear besides a hair color

I still stand by the fact that Early Version of Babylon is superior the album version sounds like a remix of the early version and just doesn’t hit at all.

I am just happy of Gaga ends up serving visuals and gives us passion behind LG7. I don’t care if she gives us another “HOG” era messiness. It’s what makes her unique compared to other pop girls.

The way we’re gonna be clutching our pearls a year from now as noms come out

if the album is gonna be out before Joker 2, this time her team learned something, and everything is LOCKED, cus what a mess it was during Traumatica

The single is charting moderately well in Europe and her fans are well fed with different kinds of contents.
