I think the first Chromatica era magazine interview before release mentioned the grave lyric. And she explained it. Dont have time to find it though.

I think so, too. Out of all the photos, this is the one that makes it seem like a release might be imminent. 

Funnily, I think the reaction has been pretty tepid from the fanbase. We've been through way too much.

Chromatica opened with 274k, 205k of those were pure sales. I remember someone here doing some calculations (I think @Pop Art?) and finding out that about 30-40k of those were from the tour bundles. The market is obviously much worse now so I don't see her selling as much. The album also did 87M on-demand streams with a big hit and some help from the blinks.  

 

All this to say that cracking 200k would be really great for her though. Let's hope they pick a good lead single.

Yeah I calculated Chromatica debuted with around 213K - 226K units without tour bundles, Rain On Me, and Sour Candy (anyone interested can find the breakdown of my math here), but she also had merch bundles that surely made up a large part of that number that there's no way to calculate.

 

Unfortunately, bundles don't work as freely as they did in 2020, but Billboard did recently start allowing them to count again in a limited capacity I believe, so I'm hopeful they will follow the route they did last time and utilize every available avenue to maximize LG7, both its debut and beyond. One mistake they made for Chromatica (that was likely due to COVID and not their fault) was not having an array of vinyls ready upon release, which I hope they can ensure doesn't happen this go around. If they play all their cards right, I personally think a 200K+ debut is possible, but not guaranteed.

Exactly. This fanbase is funny. It’s like they hear something or read something and then forget about it, put their own spin on it and voila.

Oh yeah right they need to have vinyls ready to go first week. Not really worried about that because Interscope seems to love milking them if we go by Olivia/Billie's recent releases. But the vinyl better not be an ugly mess like Chromatica's. The way they put a record in a plastic sleeve and threw a sticker on it when she had that striking cover art and a fantastic photoshoot still sends me

 

Her fans are no longer mass buyers but I think many people would buy it if its pretty and she has a hit.

Funny enough, the trifold vinyl they finally released for Chromatica the following June (and specifically the RSD version of it) is my all time favorite vinyl variant me thinks. The embossed, quality feel cover, the incredible fanzine, the Chromatica aesthetics at full scale...it's just immaculate.  THAT'S the kind of thing we need ready upon album release Interscope!

 

I agree 200k is not guaranteed this time around. For pure sales, I think she can pull 100-120k if the vinyl is ready. Lana, Nicki & Melanie’s recent pure sales debuts were in the 85-100k range, and I think Gaga is a bit stronger in that regard.

 

The remainder of the units will depend on streaming. She would need 80-100k SEA to make the difference. I feel like 70k is a safe bet, matching Chromatica (evening out because of the streaming increase but not having the ROM/SC hype). It’s possible she can hit 200k again, especially with a smash lead to build momentum.

 

But I think 170-190k seems like a realistic range. 150k should be locked.
