Lady Gaga

This is part 1 of the Lady Gaga discussion.

Clarence Clarity is a great collaborator option as well. His style would push Gaga in a more experimental direction she’s never gone before but wouldn’t alienate monsters. His music is industrial but still bouncy and can pass as club ready with Gaga on the vocals.

I mean, this isn’t really accurate.

If she did an album produced by someone like Arca it would probably be her best and most acclaimed but would flop commerically.

I agree with this but kinda not for the same reason. I don’t think Arca would be a natural fit for Gaga as a producer. She’s a rock star at heart and I think we could see some awesome stuff if she worked with the likes of Chris Greatti, Zakk Cervini or Yves Tumour. It wouldn’t be commercially friendly but Gaga stepping into something more punky, glam and messy just feels like it would finally bring her music in line with the “authentic” her she’s been trying to express for a decade

We all agree Gaga doesn't necessarily need any more hits and quality should 100% be LG7's focus, but it'd be kinda nice if she could round out 20 top ten hits. She's not too far off at 17.

Then again, she has top tens (and top 41s) bigger and more impactful than some girls' #1 hits.

LG7 lead will debut at #1 and stay there for 8 weeks.

LG7 second single will peak at #1 for 3 weeks and top pop radio.

LG7 album will debut at #1 and stay there for 12 weeks.

I mean, you're not wrong. And we can all go back and forth all we want over this but the thing is, there can be convincing arguments made for both cases – a pre and a post JFAD release – each with its own set of pros and cons. Now it's up to her and her team/label to assess the whole situation and do as they see fit.

Idk, let's wait and see. For now, I'm choosing to stick to my gut feeling until proven otherwise. I'm fine with waiting though, it's not like I'm losing it over here lol.

GAGA MOOVEEE DO SOMETHING

You're not wrong either, at the end of the day her moves are very unpredictable, you never know with her, these remains predictions-hyphotesis, my feeling is that.

Tbh, I feel the opposite. Hollywood is much more forgiving than the music industry. Hollywood only turns on people when they think they have nothing left to give financially or are too embarrassing to be tied to. Margot Robbie starred in two of the most publicized panned bombs of last year and was just offered a major MCU role.

Unless we're talking about a catastrophic mega-bomb, like Famila levels, it would be easy to sweep under the rug when a big smash film comes out a few months later. Joker would be a diversion. Whereas if it happens afterwards, there wouldn't be much of anything to do damage control with. It'd be left out to dry.

Sure when it comes to the movie industry in terms of executives, producers, actors and people from the industry in general, but I'm referring to media, publications and pundits.

Gaga is an easy target and considering they attacked her during the HOG campaign using the most harmless and unproblematic things, I wouldn't be surprised if they would use that in absence of anything else, I think even for her it would be less stressful and more easy coming from a long break and capitalize all the hype on that project and being less exposed since JFAD already is gonna give to her a massive exposure.

If the Jeff Bhasker rumours turn out to be true, that's pretty exciting because he's such a versatile producer it means LG7 could literally be anything :jonny5:

Now that time has passed… I never really understood the “boxed “ stage for the Chromatica Ball. I loved everything in it besides that. It was a waste of the screens and it blocked the view from the sides. Also it gave an impression that the stage was small..

I see there’s discourse about the state of Gaga’s commercial performance and I have to agree that success is not guaranteed for her. She will have another couple of really big tours because she is very well regarded as a performer, but her musical output doesn’t have this same degree of certainty to it.

The problem with Gaga’s music since Born This Way lies solely in the consistently subpar production choices in her last three solo albums. ARTPOP relied heavily on crunchy and cheap sounding dubstep and electro that the EDM scene had long moved past from and were too abrasive to play on radio or share with your friends, making it neither commercial or experimental. Joanne although having an A-list production crew, was composed of all the wrong people. Gaga could have put together a kickass soft rock Americana album if she worked with people who were actually good in that field and could develop this sound fully for her, every single person involved in that album’s production were out of their area of expertise and it shows. Chromatica is her strongest effort of the three, there’s a handful of songs on here that bring some personality back into her music for the first time in years and it made some moves for her commercially, but I think this album suffers from putting her voice too front and centre when she didn’t have particularly anything to say on most of those tracks bar a couple, making the album still not optimal for casual listening if you don’t actually care about Lady Gaga that much.

If she wants to guarantee commercial success for herself she needs to work with better more accomplished producers and really iron out the sound of what she’s doing. Whether she wants to make something subversive and experimental or commercially friendly, the music needs to speak to that and feel convincing. These last few albums have just been nice to hear her voice on some new tracks but to me haven’t been exciting pieces of music in and of themselves.

It is really weird that she got Mark Ronson for a soft rock album. He is an acclaimed producer, but not for that genre. I guess it all worked out in the end because Shallow was a massive success so their partnership did end up having great results.

Hillary Lindsey was one of the best additions to that project. Every song she has written with Gaga has been superb. She needs to work with her again. Especially if she does a full ballad album some day

He’s very “instruments” oriented. Idk. Sounds like winter music. Something like ASIB. Dont know if I want something like that again this soon.
That said, i love lots of songs he produced, I’m just not sure if that sound is already a been there done that for Gaga considering she also kind of attempted that with Joanne.

One things for sure is Gaga has to drop the upbeat dance music that dominates most of Chromatica and invest on low-mid tempo songs with electronic elements. Bloody Mary is there to prove that.

Upbeat music from her will always be seen as a rehash from her past. Critics will never give her universal acclaim if she does upbeat music.

Too bad the tour thread is gone forever but I think this was the main critique from day 1 nnn. I adore the industrial and brutalist aesthetic of the stage but I'm still not sold on that closed box. It worked for MJ's History tour I guess but they should've had much bigger screens if they wanted to go that route.

There is not much to understand, it is a stage. A box stage happens all the time.

I can not say if it was deliberate, but the aesthetic she was going for does make sense for a box stage. Gaga fans have to get over the fact that she will never be a "big screen for a stage" type of girl.

Babe point me to where any of those songs sound like something Gar has been there done that, except for the one that was actually on her album. Bffr

An album with NO uptempos? Sounds awful.
