This is a complete rewrite of what it was like to follow Gaga during the artpop era. It was awful. Single flops, single switches, the worst execution of any of her eras, obvious signs of depression and over reliance on drugs, cancellations of major projects, everyone dunking on her, her team leaving her, a video potentially simulating sexual assault featuring r kelly  that gets cancelled, etc. all while her competitors were peaking in success. It was miserable to be on this forum during that time.

Complaint after complaint would come in if she had another era like artpop.

Right? The Artpop era was Gaga’s most ill planned era (Chromatica was disappointing but it was planned along the worst global pandemic in a century and the largest uprising in US history so it has an excuse). It was the worst time to be a Gaga fan by FAR.

Kylie is almost 20 years older than Gaga and released DISCO, Beyoncé just released Renaissance. Why do fans act like Gaga’s only option is for Gaga to become an Adele clone? Gaga has released plenty of ballads with Joanne, ASIB, and HMH. I don’t think a ballad album would be interesting at all at this point.

Gaga should respect herself and not work with the man that said this:

He added, "Taylor Swift is cool, because she's the closest thing today that hearkens to Michael Jackson -- to great, great pop music. There's a difference between her and Gaga and Katy Perry and Lily Allen and all that. It all feels throwaway, comparatively."

Not him calling Gaga ans Lily Allen throwaway when most of his discography consists of awful attempts at copying Bruce Springsteen  :deadbanana2:

Wasn’t Adele and Celine like young 20s when they were in their prime?  I don’t think age has anything to do with ballads.

That’s definitely the undertone a lot of the time in people’s arguments. Acting like Gaga is too old to be making pop. Comments like @Vroom Vroom’s earlier post which says Chromatica doing lower daily streams means Gaga has already peaked in pop could also be applied to ballads and HMH. We won’t know if Gaga can do fresh pop nowadays until we see her do a few more pop albums.

Jack Myknoboff‘s works are basically mosquito buzzes. None of Taylor’s masterpieces are his.

OT: Lady Gaga is an American singer and actress.

Gaga has explored dance music as much as she can. She needs to move on. It has nothing to do with her streaming numbers or age.
Beyoncé is 40 and just released her first full dance album. She has never made an album like that before and it was exciting!

I just want Gaga to make music that she is passionate about. She was passionate about Joanne, we have a whole documentary proving that. She is also passionate about performing jazz covers. Yes, it was nice hearing Gaga do dance pop with upgraded production and flawless instrumentals (Bloodpop’s best work), but it can’t compare to her older dance pop records, back when she was inspired to do dance pop and it wasn’t a chore for her

She doesn't need to do dance music forever. It's tired at this point.

The amount of adds I'm getting right now :deadbanana:I got an add just to go from page 2702 to pave 2703.

The fact that he said this and now he's making throwaway music

Even if he’s right about Katy, it’s such a disrespectful thing to say about a fellow artist. Completely unprovoked too

Electronic music is so broad and diverse it could never get tired. What’s going to get tired is people complaining when a new Gaga ballad single doesn’t perform like Shallow.

You're absolutely right. We saw Hold My Hand come and go with nearly zero noise, and any noise attributed to it was mostly because it's a Lady Gaga song and she co produced the soundtrack.

She has such a diverse discography with a little bit of everything so why not celebrate that? She can make eclectic and outstanding music. Seems like she's too considerate of fans' opinions at this point because Chromatica was incredible and she could always push herself further

Her Chromatica Ball persona was EATING, it was Dark ga but without trying to be weird, she just was that *****. The Replay performance still to this day keeps pulling gays outta the closet.

I agree with this. Chromatica Ball was the only time during the Chromatica era where it felt like Gaga was finally performing as an evolved version of her older self, instead of doing Gaga cosplay. If she can pull it off for a tour, surely she can pull it off for her next album/era.

Whew my local pop station just added Bloody Mary today :jonny:Already played it four times!

we didnt get much chromatica stuff so idk exactly what you're talking about but i loved the VMA looks also all the imagery for chromatica was perfect as well but enigma definitely felt like cosplay

Both of you spilled, thank you.

Yeah, Enigma was a cosplay and a tribute to Lady Gaga by Lady Gaga. Chromatica’s visuals (minus SL video obviously), cover art and every look she gave felt fresh and exciting to me since she didn’t do anything like this ever before.

Idk how anything during Chromatica era felt like cosplay? She's never done visuals like SL, ROM, or 911 before... I'd say there were a few looks that were BTW-ish, but it was mostly new ground.

Sza posting that “weird music” Grammy clip on her stories. SzGaga IS coming.

Gosh y'all are ANNOYING :skull:

If there's one thing that you should know by now stanning Gaga all these years is that she's NEVER going to do what everyone wants her to do next. She likes to subvert people's expectations of her as an artist, her image, her music and that's exactly what she's going to continue doing and what makes stanning her thrilling and exciting in the first place. There is no one best or worst take here. Not a single one. Everyone has different tastes and preferences and what they personally want from her and that's fine. It's all subjective based on your own biases but also, let's just say, confirmation bias is one helluva thing.

Also like, where's the nuance in discussions? :rip: A ballad can be interesting and inspired the same way a dance track can be basic and insipid. Not everything is so black and white.

Anyway, I reeeeaally couldn't give two f*cks about what genre or theme or aesthetic LG7 is, she is talented enough to pull off almost anything that she wants to, as long as she fully believes in what she's creating and putting out because when she isn't it starts to reflect in her music too, and then she checks out of it and as a result the listener fails to connect and checks out as well.

So yeah Gagz, follow your heart and gut and give us the masterpiece that you have always wanted to make legend! We'll be waiting, but don't make us wait too long we're STARVING mother :jonny2:

no more ballad / mum-ga please. she doesn’t need to do that just to score some HAC hits. maybe when she’s 50.

she will swerve expectations anyway as always, but there are so many avenues she can go down with pop or dance music beyond just rehashing what she’s already done. she did NOT get to where she is by playing it safe. i would be so in favour of an album with BTW rock elements turned up to 100 like someone else said. a whole album of electric chapel-esque instruments would be fantastic :jonnycat:

something like this even:

has anybody mashed up NIN's Head Like A Hole and Poker Face? I feel like PF vocals over the instru for HLAH would flow good

Honestly, Gaga should just follow Kylie Minogue’s footsteps and explore different kinds of dance music with each new album, and jazz on the side. But I agree that she should mix it up with more HAC/power ballads.

Sounds like a #1 - #45 -#99 -OUT sized mess and years of fighting about Gaga ‘not promoting’ when there’s songs on TTH and they get outstreamed by Million Reasons within a year.
