While I love the idea of the visuals being shot over such a lengthy period, it does make me wonder about aesthetic + choreography intensity/continuity in the film.

In the last 6-7 years, Bey has oscillated between off-season condition and game-time condition (take from that what you will), which makes the idea of her filming throughout rather intriguing. 

 

If anything, I'd say she's mainly been in off-season mode up until the RWT and generally maintained since then. 

 

As someone who lives for Bey doing all-out choreo, it's not lost on me that those moments generally come when she's in peak fitness. When not (ala BIK, which I love btw), it's a lot more...scenic and beauty shots with key choreography punched into select scenes e.g. My Power + Water + Already). The aforementioned may just be where she is now as a performer given age and maturing of her overall offering. 

 

But it's safe to say, she's way more able to give a Buckin moment more (comfortably) now than she would have been in semi-recent years.

 

So, from the view of the film spanning multiple years of shooting, I'm hoping there's some kind of happy medium (or even reshoots where needed) to ensure she's giving what needed to be gave choreo-wise and showing up as "Beyonce" as she's known, loved, and expected. Because, I'm actually way more understanding of her scaling back in live settings than I am with her doing so when she has the benefits of cuts, edits.

I can't believe we're so close to the new tour kicking off. I'm literally vibrating with energy. I hope there are no Rennie songs being performed tbh, CC needs the space to shine. I'm also hoping for no more ugly boots or sunglasses, but it may be in vain

I don't mean this as a drag, but from a filmmaking perspective, Black is King is quite easily her best feat in her videography so far. Also, Lemonade was not very dance-heavy necessarily, like yes, Sorry and Formation were chores-heavy, but besides that? Not so much. So, personally I wouldn't worry so much. She'll only deliver excellence.

yeah, her own family members, colleagues, label bosses and other artists who actually know and work with bey often don't have a clue what she's up to, when/if their work will ever come out and if they even made the cut to begin with

I dont think there's anything here that's drag-worthy. In the past 7 years she has gone from her Ivy Park lockdown/Black is King energy through to her Dubai knee surgery and then back through to her Renaissance Tour energy which has built up to the Buckiin moment at the Beyonce Bowl. All of those moments see her at various physical capability levels and I agree that new reshoots could presumably boost the energy and iconography of videos for her more upbeat songs like AHAP, Church Girl and Tyrant. I mean, out of all the extensive clips from the visuals that we've seen so far, has there been a single tease of choreo? A single one? The most I can think of is her pointing to the camera from atop a motorbike in the BMS video clip. I'm sure she'd wanna fix that. But I agree that brings up some visual continuity concerns, if for no other reason than because Nadia has such a distinct visual style, and it doesnt look like she's been involved in the Cowboy Carter reshoots thus far... It's a curious case for sure.

I love BIK, but absolutely not. Some great visual moments but the changing aspect ratio between scenes, the mistakes not edited out (example: My Power she messes up the choreo and they just cut to her in the right position), and the overuse of grainy filters... Dare I say it was sloppy (to Beyoncé standards) especially when standing side by side with self titled and Lemonade

Beyonce and her co-director themselves acknowledged that the version of BIK we actually got was a rush-job, which cobbled together the footage they managed to get recorded before the lockdown. It's incredibly ambitious, but its confusing narrative and lack of visual cohesion lets it down. Maybe the film we would have received if not for covid would have been fab, but Lemonade is still her best visual project, followed by Homecoming and Renaissance.

I just don't think BIK needed a film. Seemed a bit random.

I think a film for Cowboy Carter could sustain itself on minimal choreo and sweeping landscapes, a la some of Lemonade, but I don't think a visual project for Renaissance is feasible without heavy choreo. It's too high energy, and I think Bey herself knows it deserves visuals which meet that energy. That's probably why we haven't gotten those original visuals yet.

Love what it tried to achieve for african and african american musicians, but the rollout and initial concept was infuriatingly confusing. as a project it was DOA.

Lemonade is my favourite film. It's the only project that actually needed one. The rest would've been fine with traditional music video formats. 

 

I Am… Yours is my favourite concert film and album. It's criminal how hard it is to get a hold of. 

also while on the topic, no, filming videos for different albums and stitching them together into one big film isn't nearly innovative, groundbreaking or interesting enough to warrant half a decade of wait and multiple half baked eras back to back

 

she gotta come up with something a little more wow to make all of this worthwhile
