Jay Z spoke the truth but I do wish celebs would boycott the Grammys. At one point they weren't here for hip hop/rap music.

 

I already spilled the tea on here last year about Bey and the voting body, info I got from a direct voting member but some were dismissive. 

 

Overall, it's not just a Bey issue. But it's hilarious hearing anonymous voters talk about her having too much yet these same people have no problem giving out too many AOTYs to one person. Is that not too much?

I hate that Oklahoma doesn’t really have good concert stadiums - a country-tinged era would sell here (plus draw in folks from the KC/DFW areas if they miss tickets there)

I think so too. It's a room full of musicians with huge egos, it's not full of the smartest people in the world. They aren't thinking beyond "She has 32!!!" or the bigger picture.

 

For example, someone like question for the culture Lana Del Rey is probably sitting there like "I have 0 and he's complaining about her??"

Obviously, I don't think they'd be pure country or rock, just that those would be the most associated genres. Both would still be similar enough to Renaissance and both would still have the same R&B, afrobeats and hip-hop tracks and influences. I see there being other tracks like Cuff It, Energy or Move. Maybe she would even keep some ballroom moments. I see her repeating Heated outro, just with the different background. If country + rock are the same act, than just a mix of those

Couple that with Trevor toting Beyonce around the arena as a queen even as she tries to hide and it breeds hate.

 

There are women in there who wouldnt vote for Bey because she doesnt write.

 

There are women in there who wouldnt vote for Bey because she's too naked/sexual.

 

There are women in there who wouldnt vote for Bey because she won Grammys over them.

 

There are women who just dont like the fact that has 32 wins.

 

It does NOT get easier, it gets HARDER to win AOTY.

 

That's why Taylor winning back to back is such a smack in the face, looking at the history of the award it doesnt make sense.

 

Its like High School voting for homecoming queen we all know every year which girl theyre gonna vote for.

The Grammy thing goes far beyond Beyoncé.. 66 years and only 3 black women have won AOTY that IS an issue. They have a racist problem plan and simple. 

 

idgaf if Beyoncé had 100 Grammys if her body of work checks off all the boxing according to the Grammy “rules” (which they seem to move the goal post when she’s in the race) she deserves to win same goes for any other black female artist

I think regardless of last night, Renaissance was Bey’s last real chance at any AOTY win. This year maybe just shut the door on any other General Field accolades (which were never really likely anyway).

 

Bey is an older artist who represents a part of the industry that isn’t on trend anymore. Female vocalists and performers are devalued in favor of singer-songwriters and relatable storytellers. Even within Bey’s home genre, the women aren’t expected to be strong vocalists/performers. 
 

Sure Bey could keep releasing something every year and maybe snag a win in a weak year or get the perfect vote-split to have things work out in her favor, but I think if all the messs of the Renaissance era has taught me one thing, it’s that Bey doesn’t feel like racing against time. 
 

By the time the industry’s value system or tastes change, it’ll probably be some other up and coming artist that’s the beneficiary of those changes. And that’s fine.

If she really goes the country/rock route, I don’t even expect her to get a lot of genre noms.

Beyoncé has been one of the biggest challengers of the status quo in the music industry since she surprised dropped ST, and with cultural discourse. Those kind of power moves are likely what gets her snubbed since the Grammys are not only meant to sell music, but to sell the system that produces it. The academy is full of elite paternalism, so of course Beyoncé is seen as a threat. They’re not going to award her for the way she changed the industry and the way people release and perceive music. Jay was right when he said it’s all subjective, but it doesn’t make sense to award Beyoncé as much as they do just to snub her where it counts most. It makes sense (as in the Grammy’s need Beyoncé for ratings and brownie points), but it also doesn’t make sense knowing her efforts are of very, very high quality (including all those involved in the production of her last 3 albums) + they were commercially successful, which is what the Grammys awards by default in many cases.
 

All in all, we all know Bey isn’t the only one. There’s countless legends in Hip Hop and R&B who have been snubbed and it’s to a point where they have lost all credibility. So I am done expecting them to award black excellence accordingly, because atp it can loosely be described as Stockholm syndrome to do so.
