I'm sure a part of her was a little shocked, after non-stop success since 1997, that she could do all that and still it wouldn't capture the public's attention.

 

But I think failure motivates her and that's why ST was so amazing and so distinctly HER in her strategy.

You could almost see in real time the way she backtracked on making a traditional pop rollout...Grown Woman single scrapped, Standing on the Sun single scrapped. I think had she released either she may have gotten a nice hit (who knows) but it would not have taken her to the path of legend so quickly, she might even be stuck in the category of 2000s icons with some new hits but that no one is looking to with any sort of major reverence and respect.

 

Fans can bemoan her choices but we cannot deny that her choices have 100% contributed to her becoming the superlative Beyoncé she is, the legend not in the making, but in the flesh. I can't think of anyone else since the 1990s who has become a legend while still re-peaking in some ways, and certainly peaking artistically.

Summer and Apeshit are enjoyable and I liked Nice at the time, but it aged horribly. The album was full of cringe lyrics and the production was dated on arrival. I'll never forget the way y'all went up for the mumble fest that is Friends.

 

SALUD! was actually my favorite song of that album and you can't even easily access it.

I always thought they should have did a 2-track single release with Apeshit and Summer (releasing videos for both). That would have been dope!

Wembley has a much higher capacity, more prestigious etc, its the go to venue for big megastars like her. She could have done less dates with more capacity. Tottenham is not known for hosting big events like a Beyoncé tour, even they were gagged
