Beyoncé

This is part 1 of the Beyoncé discussion.

That said, where I differ from the OP is that I don't think any of the above is anything the GP even has a clue about. The music has been well received, hit #1 on the single and album charts, is dominating social media, and is bursting with options for follow-up hits. It's essentially all worked out.

This part. I don’t think releasing the visuals today vs 3 months from now will impact the reception. I feel like now that August 20 is gone, I’m not placing any other timeline expectations from the release. While I disagree with their approach, I still feel confident we will be receiving a large volume of work to enjoy from Beyoncé in the months ahead. One can be hopeful… ?

No matter how people try to twist it it is absolutely dumb to release a visual 3 months later and it will not have the same affect it would have had upon initial release. There’s also no excuse to at least to release a visual for the actual single that’s been on radio for two months. Who cares if we see one video before the full “film”. And the lack of a #2 single push is inexcusable.

My 2 cents on the whole musicality debate regarding Bey:

We can come for Beys missed opportunities all day and you guys know how much I love to drag her for that, but what we will NOT do is come for her musicality when she is, by FAR, the most exciting Pop star of our generation - musically, visually, performance-wise.

No one can do what she does, no one has her quality nor her longevity. U dont release back to back 90 projects (Lemonade - Homecoming - Renaissance) if ur musicality wasnt on point.

End of that stupid convo.

Yessssss!!!!

I get the frustration (and in some regards actually agree when it comes to BMS), but respectfully you've been gliding from thread to thread moaning about the same thing since the album dropped. It unfortunately won't change nor quicken the release of anything and kind of becomes repetitive.

No amount of speaking it into existence will make narrative of doom and gloom stick either when the majority of the fans and GP just aren't seeing it through that lens. You're of course entitled to your opinion and to vent, but just making an observation.

Maybe I'm being too lenient with her, but I'm also waiting to see how BMS plugs into the rest of the film (?) before I judge whether it should have absolutely have dropped beforehand. If it's an integral part of the story, then she gets a pass.

People seem to forget that Formation is the one video that sits outside of the world of Lemonade, so could easily have dropped before it. That may not be the case here and I'd respect Bey's decision to present her art the way she wants it to be consumed.

There, of course, may be total mess behind the scenes. But we have no viable way to know this. Especially not to the level of claiming it to be the case.

Above all, some here are literally moaning for moaning sake. BMS is literally #1 NOW. A multi week #1 at that.

Bingo.

For the dingo.

Either you get it... or you don't baby. The culture does NOT reach everyone.

I think it’s just annoying that we’re the only fan base that has to deal with scenarios like this, but I truly think she has something up her sleeve this time.

its hard to determine which singles are going to click with the public and which songs are not before you have data. there's been a history of hit designed songs that actually didn't turn out to be big hits then there's been dark horses that have gone on to be hits. if we all got a chance to hear the album in a meeting...I doubt we all would've picked BMS as a lead single. its okay to get behind it now b/c it was a #1 hit...but I doubt it would've been the main choice. if i heard the album....i wouldn't have picked AS as any type of single either. even now...i'm still kinda iffy about its radio potential outside the virality. i like the song but its def not in my Top 5 of the album. i would've picked SR, Cuff It, Heated before that song as a single and while I dont think CG is a big mainstream hit...I like it better than AS on the album.

so its not really crazy that Beyonce & Co. did not move to push AS on release day with the playlists

I totally disagree with that part. Hold Up MV wouldve totally worked as a standalone if they decided to start when she leaves that building and reveals that yellow dress. There's no context needed to understand that Video. Same goes for Sorry, Dont Hurt Yourself and Daddys Lessons. The poems tie them together, but u couldve easily just released the standalone videos and it wouldve worked just as well.

Agreed! The way the behive is jumping hoops to justify that she hasn’t released visuals nearly a month after the music was released. :toofunny2:

True. But if the artist WANTS to bring viewers in at the beginning of a story rather than the middle, then surely that's their artistic license, no?

Make no mistake, like someone said above, stanning Bey is both hugely frustrating and hugely gratifying. I wanted all of the ish like a month ago. But in being objective and reading the situation with a pinch of optimism, I struggle to see what the major issue some are making ish out to be.

If we're in the same spot in the next few weeks, then I'd get it. But for now, we're #1 on the Hot 100, have options (plural) for next singles, and have a consistently selling album. I call BS on this visual-less window always being the plan, but they've made great lemonade out of the lemons they've been dealt.

One big point we shouldn't neglect either is that, chaos behind the scenes or not, the lack of visuals has people positively engaging with the actual music more than they have in a decade. No one can tell me the songs have been wack since 2013. It's more that in arriving with the visual, they more than not become about the visual. Liking or disliking the visual almost then correlates with liking or disliking the song. Same with the overall shelf life of both. People like shiny new things and all at once, as we've discussed over and over, is only shiny and new for a brief time.

Providing we get info soon, I can really rock with how things have been rolled out so far. Intentional or not.

I think Beyonce has enough data to pick a new single at this point. There are literally 10 out of 16 songs increasing on Apple Music and neither one of them are Summer Renaissance. She added it to TTH on Spotify and it didn't stick. Cuff It and Alien Superstar, Church Girl and Heated are.

So we can easily rule out Summer Renaissance as a single choice. But Beyonces "issue" is that she wants you to have the same emotional attachment she has to a song. She took a gamble on Break My Soul. Dream insists that there's some deep meaning and story of "triumph" behind it. But we haven't heard **** from her and I honestly don't care. :deadbanana2: RELEASE THE HITS!

if Beyonce didn't add her vision & musicality into these songs...this album would not be what it is

who knows what all these songs sounded like in their original form...another MPG would've recorded them just as they were presented from the first producer. We would've missed out on all the musical shifts & changes. Her ear for vocal production alone adds so much dimension to her songs. there's only a handful of singers who are experts in vocally producing themselves in a studio.

A Beyonce album with little to no Beyonce flair is how you get IASF

I mean that first paragraph is basically saying: She's the artist, she can do what she wants and intends, which is obviously always the case. Doesnt mean we have to appreciate it.

I go as far as saying the BMS video will totally work out of context just like the Alien Superstar MV. The problem is: They havent finished it. Thats why we are so fed up with the situation. Its just bad Organisation.

Imagine Google or Amazon launching a new product half-assed like that without having finished it midway. Theyd be dragged through the mud.

I think specifically there was a problem with the BMS video. She might not have liked the final result or whatever. But we’ve seen both her and Freedia filming that right before album release. That’s the only thing we’ve seen her film. Some of the other visuals were used in the booklet and those were done before. Also we’ve got confirmation that she’s been working in the visuals for months from both that actress and the guy that said that she was working with Honey Dijon months before the release.

Also NO, the visualizers were not done last minute like some of you claim. Frederik Heyman has worked months with Beyoncé, part of that work are those visualizers.

And NO, you don’t get to throw the word lazy at Beyoncé no matter how annoyed you are as a stan. She’s putting together three albums, their respective visuals and a documentary. That we know. If you think writing an instagram caption or releasing a TikTok is working and doing all of that is lazy then you might be stanning the wrong person.

Just look at the video for Mood 4 Eva and try to count the amount of scenes, cuts and wardrobe changes. If you think that can be done in a week, then you don’t know ANYTHING about the making of visual media. Specially for someone like Beyoncé, who works by editing down and records things she ends up not using.

A) No one ever said Bey is lazy, she clearly is not. We're just saying its bad Management, and as much as we adore the musician and entertainer Bey is, I feel like her skills as a manager are quite questionable at times.

B) The bolded part is exactly the reason why we are being annoyed: She's serving incredible budget and visuals and how many people have seen it on Youtube? Not even 20mio views. Yet Halo has over 1 billion views.

Point being is: You can create the most exquisite art ever, but if u dont push ur art and promote it in a way that hits the Zeitgeist or makes a wave, its basically a waste of money (in the sense thats shes losing more money on it than gaining). Its just bad management.

Be ready when u come back, have ur videos ready, launch singles adequately, do a special somewhere. Like give us a proper era that makes a wave instead of a splash for a week.

Beyonce could've announced this album at any time...it could've been a Summer 2023 release & we wouldn't have been none the wiser. some of you were already proposing that before we even got the announcement.

so i have a hard time believing that Beyonce announced a date with a visual album in mind for July 29 release that she knew wasn't anywhere near ready. the album photos themselves are from music videos...so we already know thats not true.

i think she had purposeful intention of withholding the visuals to let GP, critics, & fans judge off the music alone first. there was no visual album meant for July 29 release and nothing supports that.

A) I have seen people calling her lazy in this base. Not today, but that has happened.

B) I’m sure Bjork creates better music than Katy Perry. You know who’s got the numbers and you know who’s the more complex artist.

Are Bjorks Videos serving crazy budget or are they rather just incredibly creative? I have no clue when it comes to Bjork, Id assume however that shes not renting out the Louvre or hiring 20+ dancers, incorporating 8 different looks, then customized looks for all dancers, etc..

But that’s just assuming things. What if the visuals for the three acts are connected and she needs to film them together? I’m sure we can wait to have them before making conclussions. Then we can drag her or whatever. But for now she’s still #1 in the Hot 100, #1 on WW AM and the album is still amazing. We have MANY things to look forward to.

Her visual worlds are crazy and those take time for sure, I don’t know about budget. But they don’t look cheap either.

Beyonce has more money to spend than she's going to use in her lifetime...I don't think we need to be concerned about her budgets & profits. The fact that she can consistently do all of this & hire all the writers/producers and pay top dollar for samples shows money is not a concern.

I doubt it. I really doubt it.

Mostly I see there, if anything, being an intro to the Film. Maybe in the intro she goes to her horse and has to decide between 3 different portals/doors.

One leads to Act1 aka the World of Renaissance, the other to the other 2 acts.

that way each act can stand on its own while there would still be an arc that connects them all together.

But again, this could easily be revealed later on imho.
