save Donna for another heavy hitter rate?

What would this rate look like? :matty:

Disco/Pop Bibles with Diana (1980)? What else? :matty:

You moving onto the next idea with swiftness is sending

:sabrina:

I lowkey agree tho. You don't have a rate if Donna and Bad Girls isn't in it.

I'm just brainstorming :sabrina:

I'd probably settle for a Cher/Chic/Diana/Donna/Sister Sledge rate though

I've also made my peace with probably not finessing Phyllis in there somehow :suburban:

I wasn't joking either. Bad Girls is the centerpiece. People will come just for that album. The trick is to try and keep them locked in with some inoffensive albums around it.

I would go all femme. Diana, Cher, Sissy Sledge…

Spoiler

Locks: Bad Girls, The Boss, Take Me Home

Probably locks/likely: Risqué, We Are Family

Apparent "no!"s despite acclaim, classics, and commercial success: Off the Wall

Please, nos: that Bee Gees album

I wish :suburban:: You Know How to Love Me, Prisoner, Voulez-Vous

This is where I'm at I guess

:suburban:

I mean, if I'm outvoted I'll do a rate with Off The Meds in it… but I just don't see the appeal. It's not like he's an ATRL fave or anything.

Spoiler

It's not like it's that good either.

Well I'm not saying I disagree, it's like... fine. Like most MJ albums to me :suburban:

I would be fine with leaving it out if the trade feels worthwhile :suburban:

I'll take ABBA (female-fronted so still giving somewhat queer vibes, no matter how sanitized) if it's a trade for kicking MJ out.

Wow, really saying fuck all men (Not named Rodgers or Edwards!)

Or we can make it into a series of eras like Funk precursors, Disco golden era, 80s Post Disco, whatever. Or just a bunch of megarates with selections from each artist for each too idk I have too many 10s to give to EWF, PFunk, Rick James, Evelyn Champagne King, Barry White, Cheryl Lynn, Taste of Honey, Kool & The Gang, Patrice Rushen, SOS Band, Gap Band, Spinners, Isley Brothers, to be like I think we should sit through Divas who didn't actually wanna do Disco albums no shade. Tho I agree Donna is the draw and the queen ofc

Sorry I think I just saw everything being considered and panicked a bit, like okay it's gayTRL friendly but does it sound good?

Certainly taking the brothers Gibb over Cherilyn!

That Bee Gees album had three #1 hits! They are they problem they profess to be correcting for.

You'd be one of the few people on here willing to do so :sabrina:

Note the lack of the Heebie-Bee-Gees

:sabrina:

But like damn I was just thinking out loud because of a viral tweet

Like what do you want me to say. Let's add The Beach Boys and the Grateful Dead going disco too

Counterpoint: bad albums fronted by one good single is a STAPLE of the disco era. Cher is a perfect representation of the times!

I don't really care that much tbh.

I think we just defer to the host's vision at times like these, even if it does mean MJ takes part.

4 or 5 albums, Cher included. Yes, her album is bad. Yes, she'll take up most of the bottom ten. But also: yes, she's still an ATRL icon. And yes, sometimes a rate having a designated punching bag is fun.

Look at our very own UOG rate - you can't have every song in a rate be a good one.

Something about the girls collectively ganging up on someone just brings everyone together, I don't know

It's also kind of sometimes what makes more niche rates work so well, if everyone loves everything there's kind of nowhere left to go with the commentary. Only so many times we can say "You all really liked this one!"

Unless it's a collection of songs/an album I really like that ends up being the punching bag. Then it's obviously a conspiracy against and a personal attack on me
