I fear his genre/vibe would have the biggest reach for this forum and their biased interests, I wouldn't be opposed tho cuz I have to get into all the white man rock boys. Beatles, Classic Rock megarate, Hard Rock, Beach Boys (RIP Brian), so many options all the way to 80s, Depeche Mode would eat too and probably better for this forum than the super hetero

The jazz queens rate structure seems ideal for celebrating legacy acts and increasing exposure to old music without doing something as daunting as a discography rate or pitting albums against each other. Coming up with some more rates in that style could be good. There are so many women to get through and we could come up with all sorts of groupings.
 

Alternatively, instead of doing full discography (or even full singleography) rates, we could just curate a 50 song ballot per artist. I think that'd probably be the better way to do someone like Dolly, for example. (Then again, Dolly has so much short material that even a 75 song ballot could be played through in under 5 hours).
 

I think one of the issues with rate engagement ultimately comes down to the hosts, though. There are quite a few I've done lately because I'm friendly with their hosts and I know they've all been very proactive in recruiting participants and put a lot of effort into creating their tag lists and following up with people who expressed interest in participating. Hosts need to bring a certain door to door salesperson energy to the function I fear. Gotta hustle a bit and hound people for those ballots.

I could probably be tempted into a singles or a 50 essential songs rate but IDK about more than that. I would have to show up for If I Should Fall Behind and Streets of Philadelphia.
 

But actually, if this is something we're putting on the calendar, I either need it done ASAP or else delayed 5 years because the Jeremy Allen White biopic is about to make Springsteen so annoying to think about.

Yeah I was thinking about this too with the trip hop revival thread. There's a lot of material with all the pop girls having trip hop eras and then the more niche/smaller acts as well as like Portishead.

will register my support for any 60s/70s/classic rock rates or whatever cos that's what i used to listen to a lot and sometimes still do. take it from a (fsvo) stan tho, an end to end beach boys rate is going to be bloody awful, they dragged brian out of bed to make a lot of terrible records in the 70s and 80s and you'd need to stop somewhere

 

i wonder if this would be a good area to do the ones where you take a few famous songs from different artists. like, a ladies of 60s/70s singer songwriters with joni, carole king, laura nyro, carly simon etc etc? i'd like to see things like that. also, men of funk and soul? - sly, stevie, marvin, curtis, james brown etc - but the men may be too ambitious i fear

She's a fave of mine with a top... 10? album of all time for me (NOT Fuzao) so would absolutely jump at the opportunity to spread a little propaganda

 

It's a shame we just recently did the Sheena Ringo singles rate, cus otherwise she would be a brilliant choice for one of these too. With some Tokyo Jihen thrown in for good measure maybe.
