Christina went from Back to Basics being a huge, highly visible era to disappearing for years, returning into a completely different pop climate, changing her sound/image, and dropping Bionic with expectations through the ROOF. And I'm starting to wonder if Chappell is setting herself up for a similar situation.

She had this insane, almost impossible breakout with Midwest Princess and Good Luck, Babe! where everything aligned at once.. the songs, the image, the timing, the internet obsession. Now she's openly saying she wants to take her damn time with the follow-up, which creatively is fair... but pop culture does not wait for anybody.

By the time CR2 actually arrives, the entire landscape could be different, the novelty may have worn off, and she'll be expected to somehow recreate a once-in-a-career cultural explosion.

Are we witnessing the preparation of Chappell's Bionic?

Do you believe CR2 will still be discussed 20 years later? Also Christina had several successful albums at that point. You should probably compare with a one album wonder.

OT: I do think she's going to flop, she's taking too long and that rarely helps unless your name is Adele.

Well, the industry itself is very different from 2010, so who knows for sure. She's probably not very numbers-obsessed seeing how she didn't try to rush things out. Hopefully she's smarter than the other singer you mentioned and avoid doing a 360-degree image change after a long hiatus.

She hasn't even had her Stripped or Back to Basics yet ….. but just as with the OG, her Bionic will likely be a misunderstood serve

Chapelle music is way better. She creates quality, and that's why she takes her time. The idea Xtina had this long break isn't true seeing as she debuted KGB with a Gaga Rip off, and Simply doubled down on it in 2010.

Bionic's underperformance wasn't solely down to the break inbetween eras, tbh the length of the gap between BTB and Bionic is exaggerated a lot. The material just didn't connect with the GP.

I don't think CR2 will flop that hard but I it's gonna be very hard to top her debut success wise. It might even suffer being front-loaded if it doesn't have HTG or GLB hit. Even then if it flops, Chappell should be happy since she said she prefers being unknown than famous anyway

Chappell is coming off a freakishly huge breakout, taking a long gap, and eventually has to follow it with another Dan Nigro record at a point where his recent Olivia work has already started getting a much more mixed response.

I'm not calling CR2 a flop before it even releases, but if Chappell comes back after a three-year sabbatical with 11 Dan Nigro guitars and Olivia's leftovers, I fear we may be looking at Bionic with a Midwest accent.
