Did Cowboy Carter help or harm Beyonce?

Featured Replies

On the one hand, it was a huge commercial success in its first week and she managed to secure a legitimate #1 hit as well as brute force another #1 song.

On the other hand, it was negatively received by some critics and fans, and public opinion of her is a long way from Beymania.

So has this era been a net positive or net negative?

Established her even more in the hall of fame and legends! Immaculate perfect and risky. Not many can do that at her age and 20+ year into their career. Plus AOTY Grammy was a cherry on top

That's why it says some critics.

I liked that 1 song she did with the Pamela Anderson cosplay, Bodyguard. Otherwise this album felt kinda pointless to me. She was so bitter about not being accepted as an out-of-touch popstar at the CMAs that she was like "I'm gonna show you all!" and made this parody album. And did it gain her more respect from country fans? Well no

rogue2

Why would it damage her career?

It only showcased her versatility even more and showed that she can still get a commercial hit as well.

one of the most acclaimed albums since… ever, a multi week #1 lead single, multiple top 10s, aoty and emmy wins, the biggest and most successful tour in its genre (and one of the biggest overall, off of only 31 dates rip), multiple records broken etc…

half of you stan artists who'd kill to have 1/4 of this, let alone during their flop/hate train era and in a musical genre nobody likes so clear net positive it is

a singular mixed review is an insignificant outlier (much like if you were to make a good thread for once)

kukai

Yes she should have just released HEATED as a single instead of CC cm

"An audience member in front of me proceeds to say, 'Get that Black bi**h off the stage right now,'" shared Tanner Davenport, an actual attendee who attended the event that year. "I remember instantly kind of being taken back to reality in that moment — to realize that there's, like, a threat of Black people being in this genre for some reason."

She was subjected to intense racism at these awards. So much so that the CMAs removed her performance because people were literally calling for her to be lynched. She then created an album to delve into and celebrate the history of black people in country music.

I know you love to troll about her, but that's a disgusting misrepresentation of reality. biblio

downplaying the racism she faced for that performance is such an interesting hill to die on, truly makes one wonder

a selena gomez stan talking about parody albums the jokes really do write themselves rip

Yes, an acclaimed album that won her AOTY is definitely a negative for her career.

CC was highly accomplished, very well received and got her the AOTY. How could it harm her?

The album and era left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want a country album from Beyoncé. We want pop hits like Irreplaceable and Halo, not this country bumpkin music.
