Hear me out: Taylor Swift's heavily promoted wedding with Travis Kelce started out with a LOT of hype (37.5M likes on the instagram post) and maintained momentum for quite a long time, with some last moments acquisitions and investments that made the worldwide news (booking the Madison Square Garden, shutting down several streets and businesses around, the JUST&T MARRIED screens for everyone to see, heavily-publicized donations, celebrities that she probably never saw in her life attending the wedding). Many labeled it as tacky, but it was supposed to be a moment in pop culture anyway, this was supposed to be HER day.

And yet, I opened the Spotify charts and this is what I see:

Her most recently released song (for the biggest film of the year) dropping nine spots on the WW charts in one of The Music Industry's biggest days of her life, both as a person and showgirl. What is going on? Did her stans fail her this one time, after years of troubling loyalty? Is the GP not interested in the event after the 26M+ budget? Is this a long-time investment for her, will it eventually break even? What does ATRL think?

No but it got me thinking that monoculture is truly dead. It wasn't a public nuisance or "TAYLOR IS GREEDY" backlash that OTH/concerned people online thought it would be but it also wasn't the wedding of the century and a landmark pop culture moment that Swifties thought it would be (even though it's still a wedding between the biggest pop star at the moment and one of the most popular athletes at the moment.)

Everyone was reacting and discussing in their own echo chambers.

Once more details are released with visuals then maybe the wedding news will gain bigger traction but for now it was a celebrity x celebrity wedding. Nothing more or nothing less.

Felt like a non-event to me, too (happy for her, though). However, that budget is hard to ignore. From someone interested in numbers and the economy, I think this one is a failure for the books.

Maybe it was too ahead of its time for certain people. Also let's not forget it was a surprise release with no promo, it was only on apple music the first day, it just went up on motherfucking spotify nine days ago, we don't care about the streams, this song wasn't for no billboards this song was for the streets.
