Do you use prediction market sites/apps?

Featured Replies

I recently discovered Kalshi, which spoiled the winner of survivor 50. I wish I would have bet my life earnings on the "predicted" winner.

They also have tons of music chart predictions. Is this how some atrlers are getting rich? Is there a catch to all this? Am I giving Trump my money?

I did Kalshi for a few weeks and quit while I was significantly up. Gambling is fun for entertainment to me but I never got bit by the bug to keep doing it all the time.

I was skimming through and saw one asking if Tulsi Gabbard would be out her position before June 1st or after. The before had 1% bet. The before June 1st voters are mad because she technically resigned before June 1st but isn't leaving until the 30th. Technicalities like that make me scared to bet! But the idea of winning $900 off a $1 bet is insane. I'm tempted to just bet $1 on everything and earn a lot of tiny wins.

If gambling was a way to make money instead of lose it, gambler would be a profession outside of poker as a spectator sport. It's fun but you're paying to have that fun.

Anything during late stage capitalism to help pay the bills i guess

Both of my parents are addicted to gambling, so I don't mess with any of that stuff.

I go to the casino once or twice a year to gamble. maybe I'll buy some scratch tickets here and there.

but i dont want to bring gambling into my home. If it's too accessible I worry I might become addicted. I probably wouldnt but… once you make a quick buck from the comfort of your couch, who knows? besides I'd feel icky betting on things like whether a human being will be fired or not, or whatever degenerative bets they offer.

umm it's obvious that these apps don't help you make money

You're betting against other betters. Kalshi makes money other ways according to their FAQ. There are some really easy wins if you know the subject. For example, there's Love Island USA polls, "Will the word "lovebomb" be used in episode 1?" I'm sure there will be questions asking who is getting voted off. Considering social media trends and love island app polls it'll be super easy to collect some extra cash on predictable outcomes.

Everyone's going to jail for tax fraud.

They have all your tea. I tried signing up and they want your address and social and bank account info.

Having a strong FOMO around gambling is a major sign that you shouldn't be gambling.

Also, the issue with predictive gambling on things that have already happened but haven't aired (like Survivor) is that it will encourage folks to flood the field with fake information to move the market. As Kalshi gets more motion, eventually you will be on the wrong side of a fake spoiler.

The promoting

At that point, one may as well buy cryptocurrency & invest in ones that seem like they'll perform well in the future. Better chances in a return if done right.
