I've been really getting into them the past couple days. Even the "brainrot" songs, they sound like 2013-2017 ironic PC Music songs. Yall wouldn't be hating if Internet Girl was from XCX World

Yeah, they absolutely make it work as a five-piece, and they clearly make it work as a four-piece too. I'm honestly kinda surprised by all the "how are they selling so many copies?" comments in that HDD thread, because isn't this the same site that constantly insists their target audience is teenagers and pre-teens? That demographic makes up a huge part of the people who stream, buy albums and go to concerts. The amount of parents I've seen posting about surprising their son or daughter with KATSEYE tickets or the EP is actually insane.

And if the songwriting continues to improve and they start leaning more into melodic choruses, I genuinely think they could pull even bigger numbers in the future by bringing both younger and older audiences along with them. My only fear is that even when the music improves, we'll be getting think-pieces about how they're "boring" or whatever. A lot of the anti-KATSEYE sentiment feels less about the actual music and more about the fact that they're becoming a threat to people's faves.

And they really can't come for these girls' talent, no matter how many edited or conveniently off-angle clips they pull out. Seeing the domino-effect choreo in "Hootie" being used as an "omg they're so out of sync" moment is hilarious when these girls are genuinely super tight dancers and performers.

The whole EP is great tbh. "That Way" is about to be on repeat for me for the next few months, and same with "Hootie." If I were Geffen, though, once this week is over, I'd add "unloveu" to the EP on streaming and try to squeeze out those second-week sales.
