Looking back, How was your Overall School Experience?

Elementary-Middle-High School. gayalipacat3

Mine honestly sucked. I went to like six different schools because my dad kept moving us to random small towns (he was a poultry vet), and all of them were very low quality. (Some dont exist today)
We had uniforms, tons of dumb strict rules, and some of the teachers were just straight-up unpleasant-mean-bad spirited
Life at home was the greatest thing ever heart, but school felt like prison to me
I was really unlucky in that sense cause i loved to learn and study. I was the nerdy type but .......... gaycat6
Pink Floyd Another Brick In The Wall Sumarized my school experience in the 90s-early 2000s so so accurately*

When I was a kid/teen, I used to watch American or some European movies and TV shows and feel so jealous of their schools.
I always wished I had something like that lol. I was scared of the bullies but it looked like so much fun too* jonny

To this day is one of the things i mourn......havin a good school experience gaycat2

Was your elementary, middle, and high school experience good?
Do you miss those times sometimes?, resent them, or just dont care anymore?
Did you peak in high school? eli

elementary and middle sucked, high school was great wish i could go back jonny3

Elementary School: I went to a private school, and it was fun.

Middle School: The last year was heartbreaking, but still fine.

High School: I had to change school twice during this time because I ended up fighting with a girl from that school over a guy. It was awkward

well of course!

I think the thing is that I went to a very small school, so everyone knew each other even if they were not in the same year as you, and I got to have amazing friends to share experiences with (and we still do, even 10 years after graduating and moving to all these different parts of the country)

so it was never about popularity or these teenager cliches, we were just small town kids with similar interrests and goals that relied on each other so we could make it through school and move on from that lame *** city

Overall I had a good school experience. I was involved in sports (I played soccer and baseball) as well as band (eventually replaced all sports with marching band), so I had friends all over the place. I never really dealt with bullying. I look back at it in its entirety positively. I did withdraw from high school during my sophomore year. Shortly after, I dealt with a tragic death during that time. I returned the following year. I do sometimes have nostalgia for my school years, but I am also a nostalgic person.

kinda good but life was better after and now so i don't miss it really

Middle school (from age 11 to 15 in France) was divided into two parts for me. From 11 to 14, I have nothing but good memories lots of friends, laughing all the time in class. Then I had to move to another city because of my father's job, and I ended up in a new school. It was really traumatic for me; losing my friends and arriving somewhere where everyone already knew each other...

High school (from 15 to 17) wasโ€ฆ strange. I wouldn't say I was hard bullied, but I could clearly feel that I was "the gay guy" in my class. I had a strange relationship with a boy there who used to bully me in public, but we were secretly sleeping together during the year...

But honestly, I wouldn't want to go back to that time.

it was mainly fine. i had a good group of friends (and it's great to say that i'm still close with them) but i was painfully shy outside of them. i worked hard, got very good grades, but otherwise kept myself to myself. i think i struggled with the internal battle of being gay than i remember, because it just meant i was painfully quiet and shy. i guess i found it quite exhausting hiding a lot of myself away. i never really had any (major) experience of bullying, just the odd loser that would make a dumb comment towards me.

when i turned 16 / went to university, i became a lot more confident in myself

I was never bullied because I was never taught to keep my head down, if they threw a rock at me, I would throw a brick back.

I was this weird controversial character: queer, always dressed in all black, outspoken, perfect grades yet I would get into all kinds of trouble because I was a non-conformist from the start.

My teen years were depressing as hell but I recognized my own power, even then. People would copy my style, or judge me for things that they would later do.

I guess my coming of age story was recording and producing an album which got very little attention locally but got amazing reviews from indie magazines in Russia and (I think) Colombia (?) โ€” I am from Mรฉxico. Then I got into film, did a couple soundtracks, some acting, and everybody who judged me was suddenly cheering for me, pretending we were friends all along.

I did a masters degree recently, expecting that adults would be different, but I was sadly mistaken. This time, because they had no idea about me and what I'm about, the much older NPC gays started to body shame me (I had lost a lot of weight before I recovered & gained muscle again). They had nothing else, I was systematically excluded from reunions and whatnot because I was never afraid to confront them on their BS and because they would assume things about me that weren't true. Also, I can say this humbly, they were jealous because I got the highest score of all of us when we were selected. I also had more experience because I started working very young (to finance my art, mostly).

But I've also made some lifelong friendships along the way! I guess growing up with a small circle of punks, goths and hippies taught me a lot about being not only resilient and outspoken, but also kind, even in the face of adversities.

Long story short, I ******* hated school. I won't be going back, ever. The masters degree was the last chapter for me. The education system has its pros in my country, yes, but the social aspect of it will always be horrible for neurodivergent, queer, alternative kids everywhere.

Horrendous. To the point where I have PTSD and I cannot remember 99% of those years.

Terrible. I was closeted (the closet was glass) and while I was not directly bullied, there were whispers and condescending behaviour.

So I turned to studying excessively to feel that I was good in something. I'll be forever grateful for my bestie who's with me since last class of high school.

Horrible rip I was bullied for being feminine beginning in kindergarten all throughout high school. I also got really bad grades because I did not care about school, which also got me bullied. 8th grade was the only time I had true friends and began to feel good about myself, then I moved away for high school.

All that said, when I decided to return to college after flunking out the first time, I did amazing, got mostly As, was a star in my major, and I'm now working in my field of choice bird

strange. I had low energy and barely could hold myself together, didn't have the perfect grades and etc but the teachers said I was the only student they didn't worry because somehow I still managed to do everything in a good way.

I was the only one from my class that got admited in a public university (here in Brazil the public ones are way better than the private universities) that has a very high score to get in so whenever I see them (my math teacher is a gay man in his 50's so I see him in some parties) they always praise me and I'm like I truly don't know how it worked out.

I didn't get bullied because I've always had a thing for standing up to myself so if they called me gay they would get a yep and a punch in the face.

But I'm the type of gay that the straight guys always said that they were comfortable of hanging out because I'm chill and has a straightish personality (funny thing tbh) even though I don't think that

This was pretty much my life, minus the bestie part. I had no friends. skull

Well getting told everyday that i would be punched to the floor by guys double my size just bc i liked High School Musical and Lady Gaga wasn't cool at all. In fact it's quite absurd how lots of us faced homophobia since we were kids just bc we... exist?

Funfact: i hate Bad Romance bc it's the song the bullies would sing to me everyday at school to make fun of me. I don't have any good memories of it at all and kinda ruined the song for me forever.

suburban

EDIT: I was never actually beaten bc my dad would pick me up at school til i was like 14 rip after that i went to a new one and kinda started to hide the things i like so i wouldn't suffer again, but made me a weird teen that people didn't know anything and wasn't friends with me.
